There's this book series that I read one entry of, but can't remember the name. I'm pretty pissed off about that because it was good and I'd like to read the rest.
It's set in a kind of future human colony that landed on a planet with a mystical force called "fae" on it sometime in the distant past. This "fae" could be manipulated by the human mind to produce an effect similar to magic (I think they called it "binding"). Because of the fae and what people could do with it humankind either no longer needed technology, or their technology no longer worked. Anyway, it caused them to revert to a semi-medieval lifestyle with all the magic and monsters and such being caused by humans both purposefully and accidentally "binding" the fae to their wills. This book isn't really about vampires or werewolves, but there is at least one vampire in it, even though he's not the traditional type. It does have a fantasy feel to it like Martin's books, but it focuses far less on political maneuverings of the characters and more on action.
The only reason I'm even posting in this thread is the hope that someone may know which book I'm talking about, but anyone who likes stuff like the Ice and Fire books should like it. Any help?
