Looking for a HIGH-QUALITY anime to watch....

I don't care for Pokemon, Naruto, Bleach crap, although I enjoy watching it as a popcorn entertainment with my highschooler brother.

I do appreciate very VERY well made animes with great plot device, thought-provoking story and deep character developlments.

There are only very few that makes the cut:
Cowboy Bebop
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Grave of the Fireflies
Spirited Away

Anything else worth watching? Please recommend some decent ones that wouldn't waste my time. Any movies?

Just because it has ultra gore doesnt mean that it's a poor story. Far from it, but I guess you'll never know.

1. Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu- Multiple Award Winner. Don't let the First episode get to you. Number One on my List
2. Denno Coil- Very Good. Interesting Story.
3. Planetes- Winner of 2005 Sci Fi Anime award. Incredible Anime
4. Eureka Seven- Great Story and characters. Cheesy at times but overall on my list of top 5 Anime's ever. I think this is a must watch.
5. Full Metal Alchemist- Manga is better than the anime, but still incredible. Must watch
6. RahXephon- Great Anime
7. Claymore- It's a swords type anime, but nowhere near as bad as bleach. And it has very interesting characters and a good story
8. Deathnote- Didn't like after episode 15 or so, but you might have a differant opinion. Great Anime
9. Code Geass- Great Story and Characters.
10. Finally, FLCL. Must watch. Incredible Anime. Great Characters and story.

I also liked Ghost in the Shell the movie. The series were too geared towards kiddies IMO. Even the sequel movie was good even though many ppl didn't like it.

I'm currently watching Claymore and it's only up to episode 17 but it's amazing. The storyline is great and the characters are A+, plus the animation is really well done.

You like neogenesis? that crap got so ridiculous at the end with their lowbudget "internal thought" bs. If you like spirited away you might like Howe's Moving Castle.

Ergo Proxy is similar to Ghost in the Shell, but it's really boring, just well animated. Personally I didn't really like the movies. Half of it is just a person standing in one place or another giving a seminar on philosophy.

Have you checked out Samurai Champloo? Same guy that did Bebop. It's "deep" or anything but it's fun to watch. For comedy i really like School Rumble. maybe it's a little too lowbrow for your high standards.

The movie came out for the real ending of Evangelion. Have you seen it? It satisfies all ends unlike the lame super-philosophical series ending.

I actually haven't seen any good anime that has come out in the last 5 or so years. I can't stand bleach or naruto either. The art style is just meh. I prefer the old fighter style but that has seemed to dissappear. I stick to the old stuff. Even the stuff back in the day that was made for kids is more enjoyable than the stuff they have out now. The old animes focused on adventure and it had a different style too whereas today its all fan service.

Edit: Do you have a site you like/trust for reviewing anime? Run those titles through them, they're all pretty well known. If you do watch Melancholy, imo, just skip the first episode until later (at some points in the series, they talk about making a video but never show it, the first episode is the video they're talking about, but it'll seriously throw you off if you havn't seen any of the other episodes).
