Looking for a laptop to play WoW

Hello all,

This question is more about the video card of a laptop rather than the overall package; as the title says, I want something that will play World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade fairly well. Looking to stay relatively light and under $1500. Screen need not be bigger than 15". I will travel with it, and I'll also do some word processing, but obviously, virtually any lappy can do that. Any suggestions? Thanks.

wow likes ram. and lots of it. at least a gig. two if you can manage. graphics-wise.. something around a nvidia geforce go 7600 or ati 1600 would probably be ok.

That's about what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure there weren't any real incredible standouts floating around. Thanks.

WoW is not really that graphic intensive. I have run it on an mobility X700 laptop just fine with 1gb of ram. As long as you have plenty of ram anything around a x1300 or 7400go will be fine.

Can you wait for a month? Asus W7 series is refreshing with Santa Rosa and Geforce 8400M G.
It's 13.3" notebook around 2kg weight. My workmate is using the current series, W7J, it's pretty nice looking.

I think the 8400M is going to be a really slow video card.

Bear in mind that my integrated graphics can play WoW, with tolerable settings... so unless you are truly insistent upon being able to see every blade of cartoon grass (in my opinion, the graphics on WoW need some work, but hey it has almost 10M subscribers, so maybe i am wrong) you should be fine with almost any machine out there. Get at least 1 GB of RAM (unless you are on Vista, then get 2GB) and you will be solid

Found these reviews on the next for Santa Rosa Laptops with the new Nvidia mobile GPUs.

ASUS F3Sv 8600GS 3Dmark2006 = 2459

www.pcworld.idg.com.au/i...pid;3529;pt;1#cb

Fujitsu Lifebook E8410 8400M G 3Dmark2006 = 1125

Thought there might me some interest out there ; )

The 8400M gets half the score as an X1600/7600 Go.

It's enough to play WOW. Of course there are better options if you just want gaming, but the OP also wants mobility. I don't know of any other options for <14" notebook and has a dedicated card. I am lugging around a 14" notebook currently, it's really heavy and large.

For WoW any non-integrated-graphics solution will work. It is possible that you will eventually wanna transition from WoW to another MMO like Vanguard, in which case you will need a fairly beefy system. Just make sure you are prepared for this if the need arises.

asus has a 14" laptop with an nvidia 7700 512mb you can get fairly loaded out for around 1500 bucks. it's the a8js, 1440x900 screen resolution, should run WoW and probably most other games out now.

Dell has the XPS1210, 12" laptop with a Geforce 7400. It's pretty nice. A bit heavy, but feels solid.

who in the world would want to game on a teeny tiny 12in screen for hours at a time though.

*shrug* It's relatively small travel laptop with a nice video card. There aren't that many of those available.
