Thinking 14-15" laptop, that will replace my desktop. I will want to hook up my 34" ultrawide dell to it, and I plan to use my EVGA 1080 GTX FTW card in an external unit with it.

Budget around $1500 possibly more if I sell stuff off my old PC.

My keys are this below.

1. Portability. Needs to be light and thin. (Bad back)
2. Long battery life. Near 10 hours if possible.
3. Great quality screen on the laptop itself. 4k would be great.
4. SSD's and 16gb of memory.
5. Docking station of some type.

My desktop is 4 years old now, and it's time to convert. I don't play as much as I use too, and don't really need something this big. Plus it makes this room a furnace after it's on a while. My current setup is below for those wondering.

Your gonna end up with issues.

Laptops by their nature are compromised implementations.

If youre gonna expect kick ass performance in a small machine then heat, noise, battery life, connections & price typically will be issues (eg, the smaller the price-er as there is a premium on high performance in small size). To try to get around such issues typically employs using a larger size box.

Really no advice other than my experience has been that once you start putting a graphics card in notebook then heat, battery life & often electrical component reliability (as a result of heat) become issues.

In general with notebook computers, priority is given to quality of display, keyboard & battery life.

Yea, thats going to be a "no can do" on your current wants. First if you want light and thin, you won't get cheap. You can snag an alienware 13 inch laptop which IS pretty light and thin with a 1060, but I think the screen jumps from $1k for the 720p screen model to $1600 for the 4k screen. The laptop does not offer a better gpu, I think.

Razor blade might... but your getting into $2500.

And none of these pascal gaming laptops have been able to push more than 5 hours. Most $1500 ones suffer from average to below average battery sizes and thus offer only a couple hours of gaming and 5-6 if you stick to low power iGPU modes.

If you want to drag something around, get the alienware 13 and eat the performance loss. Its a very good laptop, the 4k display model impressed alot of people for providing a single package that was small, great looking screen, gave great 1060 performance, and had an adequate cooling solution.

I've decided to keep my gaming rig and upgrade it eventually, but get a portable laptop when I find the right one. I won't be gaming on it.

Look at the gigabyte Aero 14 v7. 7700HQ, Gtx 1060, 512 M2 sata - upto 9 -10 hours battery when using optimus (it has a 94 Whr battery). 0.8" thick, 14" 1440p

My gaming system is around 4 years old. Instead of buying a laptop right now since I don't have enough funds to get the one I want really, I decided to go ahead and upgrade my gaming system to the latest one. Here is what I had, and what I ordered. If anyone is interested in the old stuff, let me know. We can probably work a deal.
