I'm looking at getting a widescreen LCD moniter that can also be used in progresive scan with my xbox and DVD player.

I havn't found any information on videocards that can do this so I'm looking at these LCD moniters right now.

17" sony lcd/tv with component inputs

17" Viewsonic
I'm not sure if this moniter has the right inputs to get progresive scan.

17" samsung lcd
Which is cheaper but I'd have to get a componet to VGA converter that suppored progresive scan and some videocard so I can watch regular TV on it.

So far I like the sony one but for the same price I could get something like this

30" samsung

but I dont' think I'll be able to have something that big in a dorm since I'll be moving in and out a little bit.

OH, and one more thing. Is it posible to get a videocard with "component in" video inputs and get progresive scan from a DVD player or Xbox connected to it. that way I could get a cheaper moniter without all the TV ect inputs and buy a nice videocard that does all that. thanks

I would suggest holding off on getting an LCD monitor. The response times are just too slow for games and video. There suppose to be some good ones coming out towards mid year

The Sony is very, very, very nice. I've actually spent several hours looking at it play games (via a desktop computer and a Playstation2, and DVD movies). It's an excellent monitor but terribly expensive.

And the response time to that particular Sony is incredible when compared to Plasma and LCD projection TVs.

Yeah, good call. I'm looking for an LCD too but I'm definitely holding off until the summer when a lot more 16ms monitors come out and maybe even some 12ms ones too.

i have the sony. i love the sony. it is an incredibly bright and responsive display, you can hook it up to almost everything except a regular tv (must be HDTV). you can find it for around $700 new on ebay, that's how i justified buying mine.
