Arcadio's http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2044154 thread made me think of this movie. I was going to recommend it to him. Unfortunately, it has been at least 30 years since I last saw it and I cannot remember the title.
It takes place during a revolution in China. I'm not sure which one but based upon the clothing worn it was in the late 19th, early 20th century. The story follows a peasant woman and her family as the events of the revolution unfold around them. Their main concern is not starving to death though. One scene I do remember is near the end, the woman is out looking for work or food and is caught up in the fighting. She stumbles onto a little bag of gems on a dead body, probably rubies and emeralds, but is B&W so who knows? She is caught by soldiers and is lined up against a wall to be shot. But the leader finds the gems and lets her go.
The film seems to have been made in the 30's or 40's and is in black & white. And mainly Chinese/Asian actors were used. I have already looked on IMDB & Wiki and have come up empty.
Any ideas?
