Looking for a new car, need a top speed of at least 265 MPH

Yeah, short of a top fuel dragster or one of those cars they run at the Bonneville Salt Flats I'm afraid that's really your only option.

I recon you'd need about 50,000 pounds of thrust in a 5000 pound car to produce satisfying "pushed back in the seat" acceleration on the way to 265 mph and beyond!

That's not going to work either, its electronically governed to 258mph (it wasn't for the test, but the ones you'd actually buy are to preserve the tires).

I'm surprised there hasn't been a company tune a Veyron. I remember hearing some place had looked at it and that Bugatti had means to easily bump output to 1200-1300hp, but I've been waiting for a 2000hp one.

Oh, and on Autoblog there was a car that is supposed to offer 2000hp in a 3000lb chassis, with a top speed of 314mph and equally ridiculous acceleration figures.

There was a report of a twin turbo Ford GT hitting about your wanted speed in the standing mile too.

All I have to do is find a 500HP+ V8 or V10 motor and slap a nice big supercharger on it, strip the car to the bare frame and I'm sure it will do 300MPH.
