Acer TimelineX, but I would think even heavily discounted Timeline series will be more than adequate for what you need.

8 hours of advertised battery life may translate into 4 hours. I like the chicklet keyboard.

but would you recommend it over a gateway with bluray, a gateway with a hd5650, a sensible sony vaio, and a msi with an i5?

all this seems to have is battery life. i can do without 8 hours of battery life. the low (multi-tabbing-capable) performance means it is not really future proof.

btw, i think the gateway with the hd5650 has the lowest battery life.

Can't comment on something I never tried before.
Personally, I have a powerful desktop and my laptop is a slim 13" culv.
Everyone is different, I just don't have the strength to carry a laptop that weight a ton or need to carry a AC charger all the time. For culv, I been through Timeline/ DM3/ T135 and now Vostro v13. I would recommend Vostro only if you willing to spend extra on SSD.

Ah. But what if a pretty lady comes along and wants to use my system for playing anything but plants vs. zombies?

I'd also like not having to lug around the charger. Can the timeline handle light gaming, ripping, and light conversion software etc? Also can it handle light multitasking?

LOL, if you expect a "pretty lady" comes along to use your system, then, I'd suggest you buy a pink ipad.

Otherwise, SU4100 perform equal to Core 2 Duo T5500.

The processor is a little better and the battery lifetime seems comparable. Factory overclock.

ALSO, switchable graphics. An nvidia 210M. Is it worth it?

If you are looking into 5.1lb 15" laptop, then you might as well go w/ non-culv. ( i3 should be in your price range )
