Looking for a new refrigerator

My current refrigerator is a 10 year old Samsung french door bottom freezer with ice maker in the freezer. Since I've had it the ice maker has broken at least 5 times and is currently broke. I had to dismantle part of the water dispenser because it wouldn't shut off. The fan in the freezer is making an awful noise and there are large sheets of ice at the bottom of the fridge that come crashing out when we pull out the deli door.

I think it's time for a new fridge. I'd like a side by side or possibly another French door with the ice maker in the fridge. I don't want another french door with an ice maker in the freezer. I think one of the reason the ice maker broke so many times in mine is that opening and shutting the door would cause large chunks of ice to hit the ice maker.

Any advice or suggestions? These are the two that I'm considering right now.

Refrigerators are actually pretty simple devices, it's the bells and whistles that cost money and break. I've had 2 or 3 different leaks from refrigerators that caused incidental damage far in excess of the purchase price. It annoys the hell out of me.

Edit: A fellow that owns an appliance store told me that the manufactures are shooting for a twelve year life span. No idea if it's true or not.

I haven't bought new appliances in the last 30 years. You save a lot of money letting the used stores rebuild a five year old high end model.

My work has that Whirlpool model. Only thing everyone hates about it is that the water dispenser is slow. We had a tech out to check and replace the filter, check the water line. It just doesn't come out like most other fridges. =/

For day to day use it is ok. Since our team uses it daily, some like to slam the doors shut, it is still working great.

I have a Samsung now and it was okay but not great. The ice maker was the biggest issue. I might have considered another Samsung but there were many complaints about their ice makers and then I found this class action lawsuit.

We have a Samsung and it is super quiet most of the time but it pops loudly once in a while. I looked at their FB page and there are a ton of similar complaints there.

We had a crap load of problems with the Samsung dishwasher that we bought too. Of course it started at the 13 month mark, AKA just out of warranty. We replaced it with a Bosch and it's been flawless. It also does a better job cleaning the dishes.

You are wrong. Used is a much better value. If you get one from a fix it shop, they will deliver and remove the old refrigerator free of charge.
