Looking for a new video card

I’m currently considering in buying a new video card, I have an 8800 GT and play mostly games like Europa Universalis (No FPS) and this card works fine for me but I have the feeling to upgrade for whatever reason.

I have been looking to some of the cards available and for Performance/price/power looks like the HD 6850 is a good pick but I have also read something about a new design from nVidia that is supposed to hit the market on the second half this year (Keppler) and is better with power.

The purchase is not necessary so I’m interested in something that won’t make me regret it.

Thoughts? Alternatives to the HD 6850?

The gtx 460 is the 6850's direct competitor. Both are at least twice as fast as your 8800gt, with the 6850 being slightly faster.

I decided to go with the 6850 because it offers more video port options then the 460 (6850 offers DisplayPort where the 460 does not), there is only about a $20 price difference, and the performance between the 2 cards is comparable.

So if you want to upgrade your monitor to one that has DisplayPort, the 6850 is the way to go.

I have been looking at a 6850 since my daughter dumped coffee on my 5770 through the fan. Seems to be the best for the money at the moment. Looks like an HIS can be had for $145 right now.

you need to list all your specs in detail including monitor resolution if you are not going to use a sig.

I was not meaning to ignore your post, for some weird reason I thought you were talking to Floogy or Texashiker.

Anyway here are my specs and resolution (that I remember):
Core i7-870
evga 8800 GT
4 GB DDR3 1600
Asrock P55 Extreme
Win7 64 bits
resolution for playing: 1080p

Everything is stock except the video card that is underclocked as much as the evga app lets me.

yeah your system looks great as long as you have a decent psu. you will certainly enjoy that 6850 performance compared to the 8800gt.

The PSU is an Antec of 500 watts and since I don't favor dual or triple video cards setups; it should be more than enough.
