Just found out my friend broke her camera on a trip to Europe - so I decided to get her a new camera for xmas. I need a point/click camera, she doesn't like the digital cameras for some reason. Budget is around $100 - pretty firm price since I'm running poor this xmas. I'm not sure if any other details will help - other than price.

TIA!

Yashica T4 super is nice (~$140). My friend really likes his minolta freedom zoom explorer (I can't remember how much it costs but it's about the price of the Yashica I think).

A point & shoot with zeiss lens (I had one in the past). It is among the best point and shoot cammera, but for the same money you can get a 35mm SLR with a 50mm.

Best bang 4 buck is a manual cammera with a 50mm.

Check price here: then come back & ask for more info.

Good luck!

Check flea bay for a used Yashica, or get the Olympus Stylus Epic 35mm fixed focal length f:2.8 that you should be able to pick one up at any camera shop for arount $100.00-120.00.

Do not get the new Yashica T4, because they no longer manufacture the fix focal length T4 (the zoom model greatly compromises the sharpness & speed). The Oly lens is just about as sharp a the T4, but it is about 2/3 of the size & weight.

Most point & shoot cameras lens can't produce print much greater than 5x7 prints, and only a handful will do 8x10 prints such as the fixed focus Contacts, Yashica T4 & Oly Stylus. (a few point and shoot zoom Zeiss lens might do 8x10 prints)

I have owned both the Yashica T4 & Stylus fixed focal length at the same time. And, I used the Yashica for quick short trips to other cities for convenience, and the Stylus for rock climbing & tree planting.

have a Stylus Epic .. the original fixed focus one...very good size and all, but the picture isnt as superb as they say

Yashica T4 Super is suposed to be awesome, but i THINK that it is discontinued... as is the Minolta Freedom Zoom Explorer ... all 3 cameras mentioned are supposed to be the best for consumer P&S....

another vote for Oly Stylus Epic.
I've bought 2 for my father in law (70mm & 115mm).
No complain so far.
But don't get zoom more than 3X. It's not worth it.
The picture quality can't keep up with the zoom.

I saw the stylus epic quartz date champagne yesterday at Sears for $109. Only B&M I've seen with them in the area (PA-Wilkes-Barre). I have the black stylus epic and I like it. The ir remote is great and the pictures are darn good for a p&S IMHO. Rossman suggested it to me before I went on a trip last summer. 12 rolls of film later I'm still happy... I'd scan and post some of the pics, but the scanner I have is a piece of junk. I'm still on the origional cr123 battery too.
