I need to replace an MSI 6167 Slot A motherboard. Is Slot A the only type that will except an Athlon 500MhZ processor and PC100 RAM? Is their another name for SLot A?
I think Socket A is for Athlon XPs. That what I have in my other system. This one if from several years ago and I can't remember if SLOT A is the only name for that type of motherboard. I get confused these days.
Well, Slot A is what I always called it...you should be able to pick something up on the FS/FT board? EBay? I'm sure you could get one for a song...you can sing, can't you?
There were slot A boards, about the same time that there were slot 1 Intel based boards. All "modern" AMDs are socket A. Better make sure what you need. R
i had a couple of those 4 years ago. They are based off 2 companies: AMD Irongate 750, 751, and VIA KX133. If possible get the VIA KX133 that supports PC133, 1.5 gigs of memory, and more bios options. It was the best chipset out there.
Slot A went up to 1ghz and was when Amd has the processor cache on the PCB and not the die of the processor, the Thunderbird core was the first Athlon on Socket A w/ on the die cache, I forget the name of the old Slot A processor cores as I had Intel back then (a Celron 333A @ 550 and then a 550 @ 733) but they were the best performing processors until Intel released the coppermine P3's.
I had to replace my slot a motherboard a few years back. I purchased the Gigabyte GA-7IXE. It's a good board.
This board supports the classic slot a athlon with 512k of cache. If you find another slot a mobo, make sure it supports your cpu. Lots of boards won't work with the classic slot a (512k cache) cpu's.
I believe the 500 mhz is probably the classic slot a. Look on the top of the cpu at the code to make sure.
Hi, I have a Compaq Asus Slot "A" mobo if you are interested. It has 2 PC100 Memory Slots. I also have a couple 64MB sticks of memory. It has a Athlon 750mhz in it right now. I also have a 700mhz Slot "A" Athlon if you are interested. LEt me know and we can try to work something out. Thanks
