Looking for a simple monitoring app.

I'm looking for a very simple (Free) utility that will ping a number of IPs on a regular basis and generate a notification email or SMS when something is down.

Any suggestions?

For Linux and FreeBSD you can use Nagios, Centreon, Oreon.
I am not sure about the support for SMS notifications, but sure there will be a way to implement that. The email notification works very well.

Most cell providers will have an email address you can send a message to and it will automatically be sent as an SMS. For example, <yournumber>@messaging.sprintpcs.com or something similar will send the text of the email to the phone number as an SMS message.

Nagios isn't simple.

But it's worth it. Otherwise it shouldn't be too hard to whip something up in perl/shell script.

when i worked for a wISP the admin used that and was getting text messages whenever something went down, iirc.
