Looking for a truck

So after 3.5 years of owning a Mustang, I think I'm ready to give it up for a bigger vehicle with more utility. I'm looking at getting a full size truck with a crew cab that comfortably seats 4. I'm not going to be doing any extreme towing or hauling. I'd like to get something new/like new for the warranty and piece of mind. So I have 3 questions:

1. Which truck would you recommend?
2. Do you know of any promotions the manufacturer is offering? Rebates/no interest financing?
3. Any idea on the realistic trade-in value? 2006 Mustang GT, manual, leather, premium sound with 45000 miles in good/very good condition.

The silverado/sierra would be my full size truck choice. Don't know about promos but seems like they should be offering some good incentives the way truck sales have been. The new ford raptor has caught my attention recently but its pricey. If you don't need to haul/tow much then you might consider a tacoma double cab. Tacomas are awesome.

In my experience you can't really go wrong with a Ford or GM full sized truck. It will probably come down to what you can get with best incentives.

Could always go with a 2003 Lightning Except no crew cab.

SRT-10 then?

I agree, these are the best choices out there. I lean towards GM, but drive both and pick whichever YOU like best, and are most comfortable with the deal you get.

Either will be a kick-ass truck and you will be officially converted to a redneck.

Yea I like the GMC / Chevy Trucks myself.

Shop around as you should be able to get a great deal on one right now.

And post your car on Craigslist. Trade in they will not offer near as much and if they do offer anything good then they will deal less on the truck.

Put my vote in for Chevy/Dodge, the new Dodge actually looks pretty good, and the HEMI's got MDS, which helps alot with fuel economy if you let it work.

Check out the new Avalanches. The new body style looks great in Black or Maroon colors. It rides on the suburban platform so it's more comfortable, and has a much better turning radius than a Silverado. Plus the bed/midgate give you a little more flexability than a fixed bed.

Another vote for GM here.

The new body style Avalanche is pretty nice in LTZ trim. The beds are a bit smaller than a regular GM truck, but they have a lot of versatility. The 5.3 in 2WD trim in those trucks can get 20-21, maybe more, on highway pretty easily. The 09s have 6-speed automatic transmission as an option.

the best truck out there right now is the 2009 Dodge Ram Hemi ... rear coils FTW!

with that said, you can't go wrong with any truck from the big 3 .. or even Nissan or Toyota. trucks have come a long way in the past 20 years or so.

if you're looking for a used truck, i'd go with an F-150. Dodge didn't have a proper crew cab until this new truck.

the Chevy Avalanches are nice if you want a SUV/truck.

A ford dealer is most likely to give you the better deal as it would be a Ford going back on their lot and your showing brand loyalty

My brother-in-law is a contractor and has gone through a LOT of trucks - probably "upgraded" every 6 months for the last 8 years or so. He absolutely loves his GM, and has kept it for almost 2 years now. He even got a very similar Tahoe as well last year.

I would lean towards the GMC Sierra, but the F150 is a great choice too. Assuming you aren't looking for a truck with all the bells and whistles, the big three are great choices. If you want a truck with comfort, then you still have the big three but also Toyota and Nissan as well to choose from. That said, I still like the reliability and features of the Sierra.

Anyone heard anything about the 2009 Nissan Titan? My brother just picked one up yesterday and he got a really good deal on it.

you will not get 15k for your trade on that mustang GT either, maybe 12-13k, possibly more if you do go back to Ford though.

I love the Silverados with the Z71 package. I know 2 people who have them with over 200,000 miles on each and both trucks are still going strong.

F150 with a 5.5' bed can fit in a standard garage, mine does. My garage is 236" deep, I have 2" if that to spare.
A Chevy will probably get you better MPG, not by much but I say every bit counts. A Chevy will also have more HP in their engines, if I'm not mistaken even the small one 4.8L has more HP than the 5.3L Ford (not counting the 3-valve one).

I've seen in newspaper ads discounting F-150 CrewCabs by $10,000 in the Austin area. Check out your local newspaper ads if they're doing the same.

Looks like I'll be getting a Titan. Found one today that's pretty much loaded (minus DVD/nav and leather) for <$30k. Took it home for an overnight test drive. It's going to be a tight squeeze for me and my wife to fit both cars in the garage.

If you're going Full-Size, there's no excuse for buying anything but an F-150 right now. In all the areas that matter, only Dodge comes close, and I still feel Ford has a better offering. The Tundra is fast closing the gap between the Japs and the US in the truck area, but the Japanese still have a thing or two to learn about exactly what it is that people who buy trucks to use as trucks want.

The Titan isn't a bad truck, but it's a far cry from the F150 or Ram. That said, it doesn't sound like you're buying a truck to use as a truck, so I doubt you'll care...

Seconded. Have one myself. And don't write off their towing or hauling capacity either....they're very capable in both those departments compared to the competition in their segment.

If you decide to opt for a mid-size, there's no excuse for buying anything but a Tacoma or Frontier. The American offerings in the mid-size truck market are shit.

Are you buying a truck just cus it's a truck and you're a guy or are you buying a truck to use it? Get a proper truck and get a F150.
