looking for a upgrade HELP this DURON 600 is to slow

Well this is the thing I have not looked at motherboards for awhile seeing how mine socket a board i have now doesnt have 133mhz bus and doesnt support xp proccessors. i Want to jump in and get these super video cd compilation times down a bit seeing how they are almost an hour. I was looking at the new celeron, athlon xp 2000, or a $$ = p4. I'm just wondering which one is going to be faster for the $$$. If someone could point me to a good review website with recent updates ill read it. I would rather have a board that is under $120 bringing the mb+CPU+ram about $250. any tips would be appreciated. Leaning towards socket a since the boards seem cheaper and faster w/options.

amd is bang for buck
p4 is expensive but good if you can afford it

You're definitely going to be faster for the money with an AXP2000+ for example.
you can get a P4 1.8 and overclock.. but if you're not overclocking, the faster (stock) AMD is considerably cheaper.

and a stock 1.8P4 and even an AXP1800+, the Athlon XP will come out on top (mainly because it's alot cheaper)

both CPU's are good... but AMD is better value. (I have both.. I can atest to this)

I dont mind overclocking and thats why i was looking at the cel 2.0ghz overclocks to 3.0ghz or somewhere in that range. I will probalby go with the athlon xp as if i bought the p4 i wouldnt buy anything over 1.8 as the prices are to high. so the athlon xp it probably will be. any good board recomendations caught a few posts with a couple from new egg. googlegears gots some good gear also. just some quick tips i want the most bang for the buck and the epox board looks like it comes out on top. anyone using it?

CPU = AMD Athlon XP 1700+/266 FSB Thorougbred $69(retail) at Newegg.com (this is a .13 micron chip, should do 166FSB)

Motherboard = Epox EP-8K9A2+ It has Raid, serial ata, 6ch sound, ethernet, and overclocks very well $125 at newegg.com

Or the 8k5a2+, I believe the main difference between it and the 8k5a3+ is the 3+ has more raid channels, but there could be more differences than that, i'm not positive.

Hmmmm.. i may want the raid though maybe get me another ibm60gxp 60.0gb drive..... sounds taste.

8k5a3 has kt333 older chipset???
