ok, so it seems the 6870 edges out the 460 by a small margin, if we go by the standard clock?

also, i don't plan on buying this rig for atleast 2 weeks, so the promos ending soon won't have an effect most likely

Unless you can get the GTX 460 for very cheap, I don't the reason to get it over the 6870. The 6870 is faster in many games.

Great finds, all of them. I am going with that PSU when I order up some parts. I would have gone NV for the GFX but that's just me...wink wink, nudge nudge.

hey fellas, received the parts today, just got around to putting it all together a bit ago.

ran into a couple issues, one being the MB i got apparently has no IDE slots for IDE cables for hard drives or optical drives. i am re-using a sata drive, but my dvd burner i'm re-using is IDE. so i had to make a quick run to best buy and grab a SATA DVD burner for my windows installation. so that worked out.

also, when i had everything set up, ready for a power up test, i noticed when i turned the machine on, the CPU heatsink fan was not spinning. it was plugged into the 4 pin slot labled CPU Fan, just above the CPU. thought this was strange. i tried plugging it into the 4 pin slot labled Rear Fan, and powered it up; the fan spins fine now. is this anything to be concerned about? should i think about an RMA?

after these issues, i installed my win7 x64 on the hard drive. booted up, installed drivers and all, but i can't seem to get my dual monitors working, it's only recognizing my primary LCD monitor, and not my CRT monitor. any suggestions? video card drivers are installed, and the monitors are both plugged in via DVI, and the CRT is connected VGA -> DVI adapter.

last issue, my front case USB ports are not functioning, but i'm thinking i just plugged them in the wrong pins, i'll consult the motherboard manual to double check

other than that, the machine is running great, and very quiet!

thanks for the help fellas, i appreciate it

EDIT:

this video card is huge! unfortunately it's covering up like 3 or 4 of my SATA ports on my MB, but i'm lucky as i'm not using them, lol

ok so i opened her back up (that's what she said ) and swapped the FP USB cords to the other pins, and the FP USB ports are now working.

also solved the dual monitor issue. for some reason or another, the bottom DVI port didn't like the old CRT monitor, or the VGA -> DVI adapter. i swapped the cables to the other port and all is dandy there.

the only thing i'm still wondering about is if i should be worried about the CPU Fan pins on my MB not powering my HS Fan. the HS fan is running, but it's plugged into the Rear Fan pins, which were not being used.

oh and the SATA ports being blocked by my GPU, but that's not really a problem as i don't need them really. may turn into a problem down the road though

Try leaving the fan plugged into the CPU fan header while it boots. They CPU won't instantly fry or anything like that if the fan isn't spinning. I've seen several systems where the CPU fan doesn't spin at all until the CPU warms up enough to require the cooling.
