I'll also suggest EVE Online. I started playing it July 03, a couple months after launch, stuck around in Empire for eight months or so, then joined a great 0.0 corp, but life distracted me for a year. I resubbed in Jan. 06 and haven't looked back. I'm having a terrific time, still a part of the same great corp, and honestly don't see myself quitting any time soon. In EVE, everyone has a niche, and if you're willing to spend some time, you'll find it. If you are looking for the ultimate MMO, check out EVE. It's very brutal and unforgiving though and definitely isn't to everyone's liking.

Eve is a very very good MMO, but..... maybe the style of play wanted is more D&D rather than SCI FI.
If its a D&D style MMORPG you are after, then there is only one - Everquest 2.
Its everything WoW should be, but doesnt have to pretend to be. Afterall its Everquest 2 not WoW, which has got to be one of the most forgiving and basic MMOs ever developed.
EQ2 has it all. Fantastic graphix on the right rig, PVP, PVE, very deep and meaningful skill trees, lots of races, classes. Very diverse environments, instances and zones.

When it came out, just like any MMO it was a bit empty and pretty much a beta not a developed game.
However, almost 3 years on, its the most polished of MMOs out there, with the best gameplay by far.

Another new expansion is due out in November, and if its anything like the last, it will be very good indeed.
The only shame is that WoW dominates the MMO world so much, it shows people have accepted sub standard gaming.

EQ2 all the way.
Forget Warhammer, Conan for now... 2 years down the line they might be worth it, but if you look at the visuals of Warhammer now, already they look dated. Conan could be the next gen MMORPG, but dont hold your breath.

There's a reason Auto Assault died, it was a horrible game...

I've been eyeing Gods & Heroes lately. I randomly stumbled into it. No idea about release. I also remember reading somewhere in the FAQ that PvP and crafting would be included in the game eventually, if not on release. I also read about other nations as expansions in the future. From watching videos the finishing attacks seem a bit over done, but some of them are funny as hell - like some character was getting its head stomped by some giant beast. Would be pretty damn awesome to do that against other players.

So you are saying even WOW and Everquest are the same then

i think the only one that can be considered different are the FinalFantasy series or MMORPG

He meant MY server as in the one he plays on, Siren is an official FFXI server.

Guildwars is a fun game to play but the low level cap ruined it for me. The content was amazing, and I loved the feeling of the game. After hitting lvl 20 all there was to do was pvp, and do some titles. Getting to lvl 20 was to quick. I want it to be a challenge to hit max level, and take some time. I don't want to hit max level in 3 weeks. I enjoy playing a game for months, and building my character up.

City of Villains was a blast. Very fun, and different MMO. The character creation is unique, and the best I've seen. The missions were fun, but became redundant, it seemed like the same mission in the same place but with different wording. I found myself losing interest after around a month of playing.

Horizons - Great game I played for months. Until PM bought it, and killed all content, and started double billing people. You can play a dragon, and the bipedal races are very customizable. You can multi-class, and the crafting in that game is the best IMO.

Silkroad Online - Very fun free MMO. I played it for a month or so, and then moved on. Does not have WASD movement and that bothered me quite a bit. Tons of bots in that game that will run up and KS you.

EQ - Played this game for over a year back in the day. Had two max level characters Cleric/Magician. Funnest MMO I ever played, but it seriously outdated now. Would not recommend for newbie MMO players, this game is an actual challenge.

Asheron's Call - Another classic MMO that was very fun in it's time.

WoW - What I've been playing the past two months. Very fun game that I enjoy a lot. Enjoy the real world PVP until horde my equal level get killed by me, and have to resort to crying for a lvl 70 to come help them. GW and WoW both seem to have more idiots than cool players. Both do exist though.

You said you didn't want to play WoW so from what I've played I think you should try City of Villains/Heroes out, and possibly GW. I hear great things about LOTRO

The level cap has nothing to do with it. The game is designed around the storyline. I love it and find it to be one of the best MMO type games I have played.
I can get a character to Level 20 in 3.5 hours if I do certain quests and go to EOTN (Eye of the North Expansion pack) at lvl 10.
The missions and dungeons for me are the best part of the game, leveling was just a sidenote.

Still playing EVE. Waiting for Warhammer Online and AION. AION is not going to be your typical Korean grinder. The developers have gone on the record about not wanting to turn the game into another Lineage 2 where you spend hours grinding on mobs. It's going to be primarily pve quest based leveling with RvR style pvp leveling if you want it in pvp zones.

PvP zones will have fortresses to conquer and hold with mini-bosses and npc guards at their hearts that serve to further bolster the forces of a the guild that captures it. They also said the leveling would be way shorter then Lineage 2 but slightly longer then WoW's 1-60 pre-TBC leveling. On top of all that your characters will have wings to fly around with in the world. This game is kind of like Demi god Angels vs Fallen Demi-god Angels.
