Any suggestions? thanks Currently using NEC 16x DVDRW, great burning but S L O W rip speeds (1.9x - 3.4x throught the whole process) I have Toshbia DVD-ROM that rips up to 8x. Looking for a DVDRW that has this speed.
Um, if it's only ripping at 1.9x - 3.4x speed, the drive isn't being maxed out. Maybe another component is the bottle neck. I don't think a new drive will help.

Some drives are locked to have slower dvd(movie) reading speed. You may want to check to see if there is a firmware update to fix this.
This is exactly why it's ripping slowly. I like Liggy & Dee's firmwares. They've been around and doing this for a long time. My rip speed usually hits 8-10x w/their firmware for my NEC 3520A .
My NEC ND-2500A and many other NEC drives limit the rotational speed of a video DVD to keep the drive quieter. You'll need to patch it with some firmware as noted previously to remove this limit.
