I saw a Samsung 15 inch LCD with DVI at Newegg for around US$320, that I'd love to get but don't have any experience with.

I have a Dell E151FPp. It's a no-frills LCD (and the cheapest Dell sells), but it's easy on the eyes, looks nice (the panel and the frame, which is a simple rectangle shape), and the power supply is built in. Image quality when hooked up to Radeon DDR is very sharp.

It's major disadvantage is the lack of DVI, but you won't find DVI on cheap panels. Other than that, it's great.

I paid $270 shipped for mine.

Hmm, here is me speaking out of my you-know-where again, but I'd recommend sticking with better-known brands when you get any monitor. These include NEC/Mitsubishi, Philips, Sony (though they're overpriced), Samsung, Viewsonic, etc.

I would be suspicious of the specs on the Prelude, 10 msec response time? (i dont think so) 16 msec is the fastest i've seen.
Any way i own a KDS Rad 5 , the response time is 25 msec and is a very good monitor for gaming and watching DVDs.
Good bang for the buck and 3 year warranty too. Review link below:

BTW.. when you decide on which LCD you are going to buy ask the sales guy if you can see the actual unit work, open notepad and maximize it , look for any dead or stuck on pixels.
I bought a Samsung 151v first but it had too many dead pixels so i returned it and went for the KDS instead (not before the salesguy let me see it work)

Well what kind of things should i look for?
what is "Contrast Ratio" and "Response Time"

I guess that the higher the better on "Pixel Pitch"

Contrast Ratio, the higher the better ( 300 is good )
Response time, lower is better
Most lower end Monitors have response times of 30 - 50 msec which can cause some Ghosting in games.
This is why i think Rad 5 is your best bang for the buck.
Go to pricewatch.com and search Rad 5, prices start @ $239 U.S.

i've got an NEC 1545 (been replaced by the 1550) and it seems sharp, can auto resolution adjust everything. analog only, but its much easier on my eyes than any monitor i've used (using a 17" trinitron dell right now in a computer lab).

costs about $210 on ebay new
