What I would actually recommend is a hermon millar aeron chair https://www.amazon.com/Herman-Mille...=8-8-spons&keywords=hermon+miller+aeron&psc=1
I've seen them for as low as $300 on refurbs and companies going out of business . More than likely it will be the last office chair you'd ever buy and the most comfortable chair you'll ever buy.
I hate leather and always prefer a good quality fabric surface to sit on.Whatever you do, get genuine leather. I got this Sealy (not my pic) over a decade ago for about $120 and have tried replacing it with newer versions I thought were better. They all began to fade or rip and after all this time I'm still on that original one, still good as new. I've worked from home 13 years now so I'm literally in this chair all day every day.
LOL that will really bring down the class factor in your home office.DxFagster ... all the cool kids are getting them now which is weird cus they're sold at Walmart, the un-coolest place you could shop.
The first one would be nice in fabric, stay away from 'bonded leather' it's bits of hides ground up and mixed with PU and they really suck.Around the $200 mark I would suggest https://www.amazon.com/Serta-Execut...44&sr=8-1&keywords=serta+back+in+motion+chair the chair is solidly built and will last several years even for 300lbs people. See if you can find a local place that carries them and check it out for yourself as they come in a couple different sizes.
Normally agree but the OP wanted to stay at $200 or lower. Have to make compromises in that range. The first one would be nice in fabric, stay away from 'bonded leather' it's bits of hides ground up and mixed with PU and they really suck.

Not sure I want to know what you are doing on your sofa to stain it...shudder...but my fabric chair has lasted 18 years so far with no signs of wear at all, or stains. Our sofa sets are cloth because of comfort (they also stain). I usually am not a fan of cold leather or hot sticky leather, but for an office chair, durability matters a lot. Besides, nobody's saying you can't put a cushion on the seat. I'm sitting on one of those gel ones right now. Where non-leather rips/wears is in the arms and the thigh area.
Got a couple of these office chairs at Costco. They're solid.

I like the folding arms. Some people think that's weird, but I use mine to also practice music, and I don't like having the arms in the way.

I spoke of the office chair I had referred to previously as the thread is about office chairs.Do you even have kids that go near your 1 fabric chair? Sudden nosebleeds & spilled drinks from guests (we don't drink on them) are 2 examples that actually happened. We've had the furniture since our first house in 2002. You speak of 1 fabric chair. We have 2 whole room sets and among any of them, it's bound to show wear.

You can't play a guitar in a chair with arms??? hmmmm....I like mine for the exact same reason. I can fold up the arms out of the way if I want to play my guitar.
