Looking for new LCD monitor

WIll I notive if I have a 25ms response time while playing counter strike or Half Life 2?
My current Samsung Syncmaster 152n has the same response time (although thats not saying the same thing becauesof how manufacturers dont test the same way) and I do not notice ghosting while I play counter strike. Is it safe to assume buying the 1704fp LCD from DELL is safe?

OK, to recap what I have so far, and what I am looking at:


Dell 19" E193FP LCD

16ms ? 6-bit, analogue - $375 (after 25% off Dellf coupon)

Dell 17" 1704fp LCD

25ms, 8-bit, DVI, $265 (after 25% off Dellf coupon)

So, the Dell 17" is cheapest but 25ms repsonse time isnt the best obviously. However, it is 8-bit color, CHEAP and DVI
So what it comes down to is this:
Is 25ms response time really THAT important when I play CS, source and HL2? I have a 25ms response time monitor now (Samsung syncmaster 152n - its not mine though, gotta give it back soon) and CS and source does not seem to be "ghosting" as a result of this response time (or at least it doesnt bother me in the least if its there).
Is it worth it to spend the extra money for a 6-bit panel with a faster response time?

Im specifically worried about Ghosting with the Dell 17" vs spending the extra money to get the Samsung 710T.
Any alternative good LCD that I could get?

How do you play more than once?

I added two more E-mails(Spammail accounts) and that's how I got to play more. It seems as if you can only play 4-5 times a day, though.

making multiple emails is how you play more, but you can only do the Add friend thing once per email account. I have tons of codes now, but all I really can use is the 25% oiff flat panel ones i have. Its looking like I wont get to use even that since they only work for Dell branded monitors...not Samsung 710T cheap for me

NiKeFiDO, I see you have not purchased one yet. I haven't either but today seems like the day with a $35 off coupon from Dell (from chubbybillfold). I'm leaning towards a 1704 because I can't justify spending a minimum extra $100 for a bigger screen that does not scale in resolution. I might be wrong with that since I only read text and don't care for games. I have not considered other companies since I don't think the coupon applies to those. HMmm.... well I'm still debating. Let me know what you go for .

I am startng to lean over the 1704fp also because it is a lot cheaper (over $100 than the Samsung 710T) with my 25% off coupon from Dellf and I'm not sure how much the 25ms repsonse time bothers me. My current monitor is a Samsung 152n with 25ms response time and it does not bother me in counter strike. I may also wait a year to see how LCD technology improves.

Thanks to you, I got a 1704 because I couldn't justify shelling out an extra $200 for the 19" Dell with DVI blah blah. I'll upgrade some other time when they're cheaper was the justification.

I bought one of those from Newegg about two weeks ago. It's a very good LCD! It has no dead pixels, and DVDs and games look great.

However, I'm picky, and I'm in no hurry to upgrade to an LCD. They cannot compare to a CRT. Although my Sony SDM-S73 is very bright, its color accuracy sucks compared to my ViewSonic G90fb (which isn't even that expensive). The 16ms response time is good enough for games, but I can see the delay when scrolling down websites with autoscroll.

Notice the CRT is perfectly clear...

Edit: Ignore the black border around the CRT--I was forced to run at 75hz on both screens, so the settings for my normal 100hz configuration differed (I only did this for about 20 minutes and didn't want to change the settings for that short amount of time).
