Your best bet would be to get one with tons of RAM, a decent CPU and DVI out so that way you can hook into an external LCD

There are no companies that specialize in what you are looking for. So take the advice of tons of ram, a good cpu and dvi or hdmi out. Then just price/performance it out. www.notebookreview.com is also helpful for reviews and help with where to start.

Lenovo or Apple for Support and for the features that I outlined. Basically every laptop has a crappy display comparatively speaking, it is side-effect of their size, it is just that some displays are more crappy than others. Now, me personally, I think my laptop display is gorgeous, but I definitely notice banding due to the 6bit panel.

Lenovo took over IBM's thinkpad business, they're a major company.

For PhotoShop you'll want 2 - 4 GB of RAM, an Intel Core 2 processor (2.0 - 2.5 GHz), 120 - 250 GB hard drive (for space and better performance). A real video card will improve performance in Vista (low-end cards are fine) and will keep onboard video from stealing RAM.

Dell Small Business sells PCs like that for around $1,450 or $1,800 with MS Office Professional.

You can get a Thinkpad T61p mobile workstation in either 14.1 or 15.4" screen size that offers up to a 2.6 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Quadro FX570M graphics, and ABGN wireless for $850 to start and about $1600 fully loaded with 9 cell battery. Lenovo's current discounts are incredible.

Edit: Make sure you use the cpp discounts. Use www.lenovo.com/cpp and apply code 556655 to get another 15% off.

Make sure you add your configuration to cart to see the additional discounts. I just configured a fully loaded 15.4" T61p for $1600.
