I am looking for a compact All in one printer network. One that interests me is the Epson Artisan 700. One thing i really like about it is the design it just looks so sleek.

Any thoughts on this printer? I have read mixed reviews. Some complaints I have read are about how initial startup takes 1/2 of the ink, how normal is this in other printers? Also how bad is 500pages per cartridge (claimed by epson) reviews say that this printer basically eats ink money. I found the 5 pack of all the color inks (i think they are 5ml) for 50bucks.

Also if anyone else have any other recommendations that would be great. I'm not too interested in printing photos so much cheaper at SamsClub.

I'm really a Canon printer fan, but they keep POing me by messing around with their ink tanks so you can't get clones. The last generation which uses the 5 or 8 series tanks have been cracked so the TCO can be quite reasonable.

I base my opinion on output quality, functionality and TCO - not size. I can make room. My current printer (HP K5400dtn) is here mostly based on TCO (assuming the use of refillable replacement ink tanks), and the output quality turned out to be decent (if you learn a few tricks for better photos), but the functionality is well behind the last gen. of Canons (mostly as regards duplexing and paper feeding which has always been one of HP's bugaboos on their ink jets - one would think they would try to get it right for a business oriented series) - it is also large and noisy. Has Epson ever resolved its clogging problems - that's why I won't buy one?

I had a HP printer before which was a model before the HP k5400 and I have had print head clogging. Had to replace all the print heads and wasted a tank of ink running cleaning cycles which cost me the price of a new printer. A con with the Epson I know is that it doesn't have replaceable print heads but since replacing print heads cost as much as a new printer I am not really concerned with that.

Perhaps its time to ask xdarkfluxx what his printing needs are. I have a older model unchipped Canon I refill, it prints cheap cheap cheap, but its just a printer. I also have an all in one monochrome laser, to take care of my copying, scanning, and faxing needs. I network both, I can print to my wife's Canon and she can print using my laser if need be. Which she sometimes does when she needs to get many copies fast, Lasers are way faster than inkjets.

But if you are like me and hardly ever print anything, an inkjet will likely clog if you do not use it enough. And if you are like my wife who prints too much, your inkjet will eat you out of house and home unless you can refill your own cartridges very easily.

Epsons do have replaceable heads, but they make it so the user can't do it easily. Easy to do on most Canons that use ink tanks and on my K5400. If you don't need photo output and spot color will do ya, then maybe a Brother AIO as I think they still have passive ink tanks and clones are widely available (check to be sure about the clone ink for your particular model). They have some of the best networking out there, but their output quality (at least the ink jet types) hasn't been in the major leagues.
