up until a few days ago i did not realize that there were so many of these out there lol. when i first looked into these like 3 years ago there was only 1 brand that i liked and they were like $150. but now there are a ton of them.

i currently have these ear buds and really like them:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E6G9RI

they were like $20 but i use them all the time at home and like how they are on airplanes with noise canceling.

i'm basically looking for something comparable to these. i definitely want them to be as minimal as possible and be ear buds. i don't want any over ear things or things that wrap around my ear.

i don't know anything about the bluetooth ones and what to expect out of the cheaper headphones, but does anyone have any they recommend that are similar to those in the same price range? as mentioned in the title these will be used primarily at the gym while working out.

I have and use these regularly. They're not noise-cancelling, and the battery life could be better (I get about 4 hrs out of them). They are completely sweat-proof/water resistant (I can vouch for it), because I sweat a lot. I broke my last pair of BT headphones due to sweat. Comes with a ton of different ear pieces for fitting your ear. Best pair of workout BT headphones I've ever owned with the exception of the battery life.

thanks but as mentioned i'm not looking for ones that wrap around my ear and looking for more "in the ear" so they cancel out noises in the gym. the battery life i'm not concerned about as i am at the gym for like 60 minutes usually, sometimes a little longer. i'll only be lifting weights too, no running or anything.

I use Jaybird Bluebuds at the gym and they work well. It sounds like it may have been the thing you found earlier for $150. I researched this topic pretty extensively before I bought them about 2 years ago. They're still working good. Battery will last me about a week-to-two-weeks 3x at gym per week for 1 hour each time. It looks like they have a newer model out now called the X2, don't know what the difference is.

I run and lift weights in them.

those aren't the ones i looked at, the ones i was looking at were sony's. they actually didn't have any that had the wire like the ones now a days do, it was more of a solid piece that went around the back of your head.

those look pretty good. i am trying to spend less than that on earbuds though if possible. I realize bluetooth will be more expensive than the $20 i spent on the wired ones in the OP, but i'm not trying to spend $100 if i can go lower than that.

Amazon is riddled with cheap Chinese BT headsets. Most are probably made in the same factory and just branded differently.

I've gone through about half a dozen (includes replacements of broken units). I've given up on the cheap in ear versions, they just don't last. I used mine primarily for riding my bike on my trainer, running and using my C2. All involve very heavy sweating. They just died withing a week to a few months.

I'm currently using V-moda crossfade over the ear headphones. They sound incredible, are built like a tank, but I can't get a comfortable fit with them. So they're going back.

I just ordered a Monster on ear sport model that has good reviews- $170 though.

If you're set on in ear models just get the cheapest in ear set that amazon sells and be prepared to have them replaced every month or two.

OP my wife is a workout junkie and she ran through four high dollar sets until I bought her these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XZHQAMC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

She loves them.

cool thanks those look pretty good to me. while i don't want the around the ear part it appears that most "sport" ones will have that, and i guess those are so minimal it shouldn't bug me.

based on what i've read too, i believe you are correct that a lot of the $20 ones are the same just rebranded. i am definitely set on in ear models though. i may just chalk up some more money and spend more than initially thought to get some nicer ones too.

oh an another question...

i notice these all have volume control on the headphones. will my phone be able to control the volume or will i have to deal with pressing the volume on the headphones to turn the sound up/down? i'm assuming it will sync up and both will control eachother based off of my bluetooth ue boom speaker, but just thought i'd check.

You can control the volume with either the phone or the earbuds themselves.

I have a pair of the Jaybirds Bluebuds X and I would not recommend them for exercise. The earbuds are very heavy and they require a good seal to not sound like crap. Once you start moving around and/or sweating it becomes hard to keep a good seal. The little in-ear flaps you need to use with them are extremely uncomfortable as well. I think Jaybird might have something newer out that works better.

My favorite Bluetooth earbuds were a pair of Phiaton PS20BT but those went through the washer and they don't make them anymore. If I were getting a pair today I would probably get the Phiaton PS210BT assuming you can live with the large control widget on the cord. Those buds don't require much of a seal to sound good, but they aren't as noise isolating either.

i just googled those and yeah that dangly thing definitely isn't something i would like.

i've been reading reviews on some of the different ones and comparable to the ones poofyhairguy posted and i think i'm going to order those. they have overall good reviews and the price is good.

poofyhairguy i'm just curious if you have any idea how the noise isolation on those headphones are by any chance.

Probably not just the $20 ones. It's pretty much all of them. I'll wager that all of the off brand in ear, on ear, over ear headsets are made in one or two factories and all similar designs share internal parts. That's why they all die within a few days to a few months.

Don't spend more than $30 on a set. Get them replaced once under warranty and then buy something else when the replacement set dies.

I have used Plantronics Backbeat Go 2. Pretty mid-range I'd say. I got about a year of life out of them before my left earpiece died (yesterday...). Sweatproof. I used them while working out, walking the dogs, and basically any time i wanted to. The sound is definitely not as good as a similarly priced wired connection, but it's certainly in the "good enough" category.

FWIW, I'll be upgrading when i replace mine. Either to something decent wired - my wife has JBL Reflect that sound pretty good, and there is a BT version but haven't heard much about them - or to something top of the line like the Jaybird X2.

The Jabra (i think..) sport has a nice looking pair of high-end earbuds that have a HRM incorporated into it now too.

doing a bit of research on those photive brands, it seems like everyone is saying that the bluetooth drops out frequently when the phone is in their pocket. mine is going to be in my pocket for sure when working out.

anyone have any experience with this? i think that is steering me clear of those brands at this point.

She said they work well and the audio is "decent" (she is super picky about that so for a regular person that means great).

Picked up some Jaybird X2s. Audio quality is very very good - I'm really impressed. They're far better than my wife's wired set. Battery life so far seems to be very good as well. Very comfortable. I'm honestly surprised. I was expecting to be disappointed but so far they're straight up baller.

do any of you who use these wireless earbuds put your phone in your pocket? seems like dropouts, even reading some people's experienes with the jaybird x2's, is that it's common to drop out when in your pocket. many people say the x2's don't drop out but a couple people in reviews did mention it. seems like all of the other cheaper ones everyone says they drop out if the device is in your pocket.

i'd be curious to hear anecdotal experiences from people on here.

I've never had issues with dropouts with either my Phiaton or Jaybird sets. When I used to run with them I had my phone in a waist belt tucked into the small of my back under a shirt. They always worked great. I can't speak for the cheaper sets, but the ones I had always worked.

Phone is always in my pocket or on the ground near squat rack or bench. Never had a drop out with the bluebuds.

after doing some more research and from the comments in here, i am actually leaning towards the jaybird brand now.

now the question is do i get the old model (bluebirds) for $90 or do i get the newer version (x2) for $140 lol. gonna read up on some comparisons between the two to see if it's worth the extra $50. i didn't anticipate on spending this much in general on some ear buds so i'll have to figure this one out.

thanks for the comments.

This was a rather coincidental thread occurrence, as my sister was just asking me about this topic a day or two back. I've never really looked into audio tech much, it just doesn't get me all that excited, so I don't know this stuff well at all.

Does anyone know about these? http://www.amazon.com/SoundPEATS-QY...TF8&qid=1454030014&sr=8-3&keywords=soundpeats

They seem to be well-reviewed, based on a cursory glance of the Internet, and $20 is hard to beat, since buyer's remorse is almost entirely negated by the low cost. My sister's wanting something for the gym in the morning that doesn't let in too much noise (there's a bro workout class when she goes). She's saying sub-$150, but that also seems like a rather high price to get passable sound for short-term listening and reasonable comfort.

I told my wife tonight that I'm pissed about my x2 purchase. I had no idea that every other speaker or headset I owned was trash until now. The x2 clarity and crispness is very impressive. On par with my 400 dollar 2.0 set from audioengine, at worst.
