I think most of the noise from a pump comes from the AC hum of the motor. You could look into DC pumps.

Here is an example I found at this place.......Price1

12V DC Submersible Bilge Pump
Smaller and lighter compare to other bilge pumps
Tank dewatering, emergency pumping, recirculation and more...

200 gph / 3.33 gpm
4.5VDC - 12VDC, 1.7A
ABS body, 0.4" discharge, ~0.44 pound
2 in L x 1.4 in W x 3.75 in H
6 ft cord/lead

You could run this pump off of your powersupply since its only 1.7A.

I am sure there are more powerful DC pumps out there though and this one would require a reservoir, but its something to think about.

Here is the place that makes those pumps, there are more powerful ones.........Alita

Heck my RIO 180 only runs 85 gph, I may look in to this pump. Then when I shut down my system, my pump would shut down too.

Correct me if im wrong, but wouldnt it be bad if the water stopped moving? I have a feeling that the waterwetter and the h2o would seperate if it was left off for an extended period of time. So that would mean that corrosion could occur right?

But as to the noise issue, i think that a dc pump might eliminate some of the noise, if for some reason yours humms excessively.

First though, you might want to tie a sponge completely around the pump with a rubber band and fasten it very securely to the case. This should eliminate most of the amplification noise.

I dont know how much freedom you have, but you also might want to experiment with different locations within the case. Sometimes cases have a spot where resonance doesnt occur.

Just a few possibilities that might prevent you from having to buy a new pump

Warcon: thx for the links...I actually am strongly considering a DC pump, also because I do NOT want to leave my pump running all the time, and hooking it up to my (400W) PSU is much easier than the relay thingy. I was also looking at a small pump by Jabsco. Bit expensive though.

4dm: I think I am going copper all the way, so not sure if corrosion will be an issue. As for the sponge...I tried that route and half embedded the 1048 in a good size sponge. Did not eliminate the hum (I think it gets transmitted through the tubing and the air).
