Looking for some airsoft advice

Ok, some guys from my church are getting into airsoft so I decided to join them. As we are all new to it and we are not hardcore into it I bought fairly cheap equipment. I ended up getting a UTG AEG mp5 ($100) as my main gun and a UHC heavyweight M9 springer ($19) as my backup. I know I should have gone for a TM or ICS mp5 and a KWC GBB pistol but that would have been closer to $500 to get the same basic setup.

Anyway, I am looking for advice/pics on how to lube the mp5 and change out a few cheap parts. It works very well stock and is almost as fast as a STOCK ICS (~250ish fps) but people reccomend changing the o-ring, rewiring the battery to the stock and getting a M100. As a total newb I know nothing about doing these and don't know of any people in the Seattle area who are big into airsoft (freaking liberals ).

Any advice is appreciated and I am really looking for a forum where I could ask these things and get good answers instead of the "airsoft is for posers" crap that people say around here. Thanks!

Um, I'm not sure what a thread with some guy asking about sex has to do with airsoft questions. I realize he too is also looking for a forum on his "topic" but the similarities end there.

I'm sure there are many people here (like myself) that surf other forums as well and while anandtech is and will be my first stop for giving/recieving tech advice it's not exactly known for airsoft (and sex for that matter, poor other dude). I am looking for some pointers in the direction of other forums that specialize in airsoft and are known to give good advice.

What was the point of your post again?

I assume you mean these guys? What makes them good? Have you had good experiences there with questions being answered? Thanks for the pointer, I will check them out!

if you were on the east side of washington i'd come over and help you do it, but as for forums or anything like that i'm afraid i cant be much help, all the guys i play with are here in the tri-cities... you could try tcjokers.com, our local forum, there are a few guys who really know what they're doing and might be able to help you.

btw, the gun you picked is one of the best if you're just getting into the sport, but if you plan to keep playing, you'll be better off with a TM or CA gun, better upgradeability and longer life. i'm running a fully upgraded TM SR-16 M4, thing fires at ~400fps with .20g bb's and ~450fps with .12g bb's, thing will drop a guy at 30ft with one hit.

Very cool, thanks for the info. I am actually from Spokane (grew up there) and travel back and forth fairly often to visit my family. If you know of any games in the area on a weekend I might have to come over and give it a try.

My biggest concern was spending a ton on a cool gun and then never really getting to use it so thats why I went with the UTG. It was a toss up between the UTG AK-47 and the MP5 and while the AK is better in almost every category (and costs about $30 more) I have always loved the Mp5... I don't know how serious the guys I will be playing with will get. They all got decent GBB pistols (one even got the M18C fully auto from KWA) but that might be as far as we go. I know if we really get into it there is a ICS or TM MP5 with my name on it...

That looks like one nice gun though 350-400 fps might be a little too much for the smaller games we will be playing. Only 1000 being made, bummer, that would be a cool gun to get in a few years if we decide to get serious.

Thanks for all the posts!

Their forums seem to be down at the moment, but check out Red Wolf Airsoft. They stock a ton of the Asian imported airsoft guns, and they have a lot of good info on their site as well.

I used their site a little when shopping but did not think to look at the forums. Thanks for the pointer.

No orange tip

Thats very true but a decent AEG AND a springer pistol costs less than a single GBB, and the AEG is more accurate (though not as hard shooting). I would love to get a GBB pistol sometime in the future though it would probably be a glock or beretta replica instead of a deagle.

As for no orange tip I believe it's illegal to sell or transport an airsoft replica without the orange tip.
