Listen music on and to drown out the noises of my surroundings...(my parents, cars outside, and the hum of electronics...)
I was thinking about getting the sony v600s or anything decently priced and closed cuped or whatevr, not open air (dont even think about telling me to get grados...yeah u know who u are..)...anyways any recomendations?

The sony V600 is very very crappy. You should get the Sony V6 instead, they are much better. It's closed and can be had for about $60. Or if you really want to get good fidelity grab the Etymotic ER4P. I have them and they are great, blocks out almost all excess sound and it's ranked very high on the best dynamic headphones in the world list. It's pretty steep though at ~$270

I like Grados , but I also had the V600's and I liked them. They're comfortable and produce great sound, I just thought the Grados did a bit better with all kinds of music.

Edit: scratch that, I said i had the V600s, I meant I had the V6's. They were comfortable and produced great sound indeed, but they're also hard to find nowadays.

Good deal. Forget the v600's, go the v6 route.

I love the upfront sound of the Grado headphones but they were just too uncomfortable for me. When I was deciding between the Etys and the Grado RS 1 I had to go with the Etys. Make them leak less sound and more comfortable and I would get one in a heartbeat though.

Definitly stray away from the V600. I have the V6's and they are my most used headphones. If you want pure music bliss but will sacrifice drowning out the outside sounds buy the Sennheiser HD580's from Newegg. I did and will never look back, everything through these things are amazing.

get the ones with the built-in subwoofer from mcmelectronics.com. There is an old thread on these from the 'hot-deals' forum. Search there. I bought a pair when they were on sale (i think around $17), and they flat out rock! I would pay $50 for a pair of these any day. Seriously, check these out, you won't be dissapointed.

Considering the original poster stated - No Grado headphones, you do a find job of thoroughly reading the posts. Now, for my input on Grado headphones. Yes, they are damn fine headphones. The SR-80 model might be slightly better. However, I found the SR-60 model to be quite a bit more comfortable after about listening to each one for at least 30 minutes at my retailer. The cups on the SR-80 model kill my ears after a short period of time. Now, I just have to wait until Christmas so I can open up and use my SR-60s. I also read about a user who purchased the SR-125 model and claims it took nearly a year to get the drivers broken in. Then, they really took off in regards to sound and performance. I guess if one is truly serious about the SR-125, then it might be best to look for a used pair which might have gone through the break-in process for the drivers.

Now, to the original poster of this thread. I know nothing about noise killing headphones such as those you are looking for.

Wow, you actually like those headphones?? I bought them also, and I think that they are absolutely terrible. The built-in subwoofer has a huge peak at about 150 hz, and drops off fast as you go down in freq. The head band is very stiff and squeezes your head too, and they become uncomfortable after a while. But you can't hear anything else but music when they are on.

I got them and I love them. You can adjust the bass boost to mitigate what you are talking about. These are closed ear headphones, so they will block out surrounding sound.
