Looking for some upgrade advice please

Well I've had this computer for a little bit now, I'm trying to decide what, if anything, to upgrade on it.

Current specs:
i815 mobo (I think, it came from Dell.. no choice)
P3-866
128MB PC133
SB Live Value
ATI Radeon 32Mb DDR
10/100 ethernet
modem
16x DVD
Iomega Zip 100
17" Cybervision monitor
Altec Lansing ACS48

Not really looking at a budget right now. Have some money saved up, thought about waiting for the NV20's if they're supposed to be so cool. I dunno.. I'd like to hear what the other forum members think. Thanks a lot!

That's a really nice system already but if you really want to upgrade something put in another 128mb or 256mb of ram. Keep in mind the only reason that I am recommending this upgrade is that because ram is VERY cheap now, you could use a little bit more, and if you're running win2k it'll be a huge boost in performance

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about my system at all. I had thought about a new monitor, I've had this one for a while the Sony CPD-G400 look like a nice one. Only problem is it would take me quite a while to save up the $475 or so that would cost. Other than possibly another 128 of RAM, the other option I'd thought about was replacing the Zip drive with that Plextor 12/10/32 burner. I hardly use the Zip because it holds so little I can't fit much useful on there. Also thought about replacing the speakers with the Klipsch v2-400 speakers. Thanks for the current suggestions, if anyone else wants to voice their opinion I gladly welcome it.

You have a very nice system but if I was in your place I'd get another 128 MB of RAM.

Agree with taz here. Get another 128 (or 256 ) of RAM before they decide to start jacking the price back up. The Plextor's a good idea but you may want to wait a month since they just released their 16/10/40 burner. The prices on the 12/10/32 ought to come down a little by then, hopefully so I can get one myself. The larger monitor would be nice, depends on your situation- how far you sit away from it, what you use it for (games, DVD's or just normal stuff), and how much time you spend in front of it each day, etc. What's your hard drive like? Could you use more space? How about a good printer or digital camera (highly recommend both). Just a few ideas from someone just starting to get into this stuff and researching hardware for a new system.

The RAM sounds like a definite possibility, especially since it is so inexpensive right now for PC133. I think this monitor will have to make due for a while, a new one like I would want is just too expensive, plus I am fairly limited for desk space as well. As for a printer I have a HP 932C, plenty fast enough for what printing I do. The digital camera would be a nice toy, but not a necessity I think.. besides also being pretty expensive for the ones I have looked at. Hard drive is a 20Gb I believe, and for the moment I have tons of space left on it so I'm in no hurry for a new HD.

If you must spend some money on it, get a CDRW drive.
