Looking for TV stand

Will be getting a 42" TV around Xmas, but I can't drill any holes in the wall where I'm renting.

This looks real close to what I'm after, except the price is crazy, I'm not sure what's a good price on a floorstand like this.

here's the page for it. I really like the looks of it, but can't swing spending more on the stand than the actual TV. The other similar ones I'm seeing all look kind of clunky. I know something that has a cleaner design is going to cost more. But I'm hoping I can find something similar looking for around $300. Anyone have/seen what I'm after? All I need's 1 shelf to put my HTPC on. If it was adjustable that would be cool too.

So is BDI expensive just because of the name or is the quality actually a lot better that other brands? I like the one you linked too, that site had a silver one with a clear glass shelf. Doesn't look as elegant but it's $279 so I think we have a winner. The styling of the BDI sure is nice, a shame it costs so damn much.

You might find a glass unit designed for a TV with a mountig pole in the back. I have seen them in places like Wall-mart. You might look at some other upscale ideas. I have also seen some cabinets that the widescreen comes up out of. I dont like the TV that high myself. some of the cabinets look like a dining room side table (long but not too deep). My 40 Inch Samsung sits on a kind of a coffee table. It is a little too deep, but it works.

I was in the same boat. Renting in an apartment but I wanted a TV stand with a mount that would float the TV and let me put a center channel on the highest shelf.

I ended up with this from Costco when they were running a $60 off coupon on it a few months ago. At the time I was also looking at stands from Z-line and Techcraft. Everything I remember considering was under $300. Just search through their sites for suitable models with integrated mounts and punch those models into Google shopping to find the best prices.
