Hello.

I have a need to edit and combine various videos and still photos. Would need to be able to add text to the video as it plays, and dub in music.

Some of the videos are .mpg, and some are .MTS (canon)... I can convert the MTS to MPG if needed.

I don't want to break the bank... this is for a couple of videos that I will post to youtube. I don't mind buying something though, but want to keep it within range of $100.

Free would work too!

Any suggestions?

I've been using Sony Vegas Movie Studio for a couple years for my Canon MTS footage and it is great. Even the full Production Suite is within your price ceiling.

My wife bought me the new version *last* Christmas and it is still unopened in the box because I've been so lazy about installing it. I'm still using version 9.

You want cheap paid version? Try demo version before you buy Adobe Premiere Element. Very easy to use for those who want to work with video editing lightly….Cost about less than 99 buck I believe.

What is your OS? Windows Live Movie Maker is very basic but should allow you to achieve what you'd like to do - and it's free.

I use Nero Multimedia Suite. Nero Video does all what I need. One of the easiest tools around if you want to edit and compile a DVD/BD disk from different media sources.

I second this. If you're on Windows, then Movie Maker is plenty for basic video editing.

I don't think Windows Movie Maker can process AVCHD footage. Am I wrong?

It appears that the latest Windows Live Movie Maker used on Windows 7 does support AVCHD.

However, I am using the latest version of Sony Vegas Movie Studio and I love it, but it does have more of a learning curve and it's own "quirks". The issues that I have seen are mostly related to saving AVCHD files using the "sony" codec. Using the Mainconcept codec seems to work fine.

Other people are happy with Adobe Premiere Elements, PowerDirector, VideoStudio and others. I think that all of these are available for < $100 and they all have demos.
