A friends Dell Dimension 9100 with an intel P4 630 (I think) Failed to wake up.
There is a green light, on the motherboard itself, that lights when you plug in the power cable.
Other than that,nothing happens...At all.
No power light in the switch,the diagnostic leds are dark,no fans etc.
Tried a different power supply,no joy.
The fans and heatsink are not clogged or overly dusty,so I don't think it was a heat issue.
Took out the video card,memory, Hard Drive and DVD-burner,and they worked ok.
So we put together a system for him,out of those and some other parts I had around.
They have been working now for a couple months,so whatever happened ,it seems limited.
I am now seeing a few cheap intel boards around that would be great for building a very low cost ,basic PC for someone.
I starting fixing neighbors PC's for little or no cost,and that seems to have led to people giving me the computers once they are done with them,so i can use those parts for the next guy.
So I have all the parts needed except a motherboard and heatsink if this CPU is ok.
I am not a good gambler however,so I would like ,and Appreciate,others thoughts before I put up the money for a board and heatsink.
So, What do you Think?
