Out of curiosity how did you have time for 8 dates in one week or 3 in one day? Did you just ditch them? Three was about my max. Wed, Fri, Sat. I never had one that was bad enough to ditch.

Might have a coffee date in the afternoon and drinks at night. If one date ends early, call up the next girl. Women can be flakey so it's good to keep your options open.

The problem with filtering is that 90% of online dating just boils down to pictures. So, almost everything else is ignored.

50%, maybe. Looks aren't everything, but they can make up for a lot of other shortcomings. Possibly because it's the one thing she can't change about you.

From what I've seen, Tinder is more a hookup site than a dating site. It's almost like the straight version of Grinder.

A buddy of mind has a Tinder account. His profile picture is two handsome hockey players and some fat Italian guy off to the corner. Guess which one he is, and guess how many replies he gets.

Yeah, I don't bother with profiles where you can't clearly tell which person she is. Sometimes a girl will have five pictures, all of them group photos. Are you offering a threesome or what?

Grindr? If only women were as slutty as men.

As far as OkCupid or Tinder or anything else being a hookup app, it's what you make of it. I think Eharmony is a shill. "Looking for" a relationship might leave you to set your sights low.

Charge money before you can message anyone. It's been done before.

They just need to make it cheap enough that people ignore the payment, but expensive enough to make some of the asses keep away. Just call it the "Netflix of Dating". I mean... who hasn't kept their Netflix account alive just because they kind of forgot they still had it?

Also, I was apparently one of the only ones that would continue talking even though she didn't have a profile picture up. Apparently most men can't handle the thought process of an attractive woman not flaunting herself with selfies.

OkCupid doesn't even show me profiles without photos anymore. I'm not sure if I turned it off somewhere, but I don't recall. I actually had no issues if someone didn't have photos. PoF will still show you people without photos, and I look at those anyway.

Well Okcupid has made it a thing to not show profiles without photos in the searches but if you look at someone's profile and you don't have a photo, they'll know you visited them and they can go send you a message, etc. I don't have a photo and I've had 2 visits, both by profiles I've visited.

Why? There are a million free dating sites. Paying money doesn't necessarily increase the quality of service or the quality of women.

It's in the search, on by default. Who wants a faceless profile? This isn't a personals ad from the 80's.

Yeah. I've had people visit me that don't have photos, but it doesn't help that I never could find them in the first place.

So, I did a bit of digging, and apparently, you can search for people without photos, but to do it, you have to edit your search string in the URL. The URL should have "match?" in it, and then that will be followed by "filter#=..." (where # is just a positive integer that starts at 1 and goes up). You need to find "filter#=1,1" and change the second 1 to 0. On my search I had "filter5=1,1", so I changed that to "filter5=1,0" and it worked fine.

EDIT:

It's effectively a monetary filter. I think sites like eHarmony and Match.com are too cost prohibitive for someone to really try it. I mean... one month on eHarmony is $25-30, and you can't even control your rate of consumption! D:

Some people just don't want their photos up there. My post was quoting someone whose wife was one of those people. I don't necessarily know why some people keep their pictures off, but I could see them doing it to avoid having their picture plastered, a way to avoid terrible messages (some of them message first and offer photos), or their profile might not be done yet.

Every site has their own pay model. Even Grindr, Tinder, OkCupid are charging a bit for premium features.

They may have their reasons, but most people don't want to send or receive messages from a no-face. It's just creepy.

Yes, but those places tend to give fringe benefits for the cost. For example, OkCupid allows invisible browsing, provides extra filters, and removes mailbox limits. What I'm saying is to take an eHarmony or Match.com approach, but avoid the exorbitant fees. Both of those aforementioned sites are around $20+ (on a month-to-month basis) just to talk to people. I think you can get people to be a bit more serious with the same price that OkCupid charges: $5. That's in my "Netflix Range".

Do I necessarily like the idea of having to pay to message people? Of course not. However, this is in the discussion of how to make the sites slightly less skeevy.

Nah, it's because most people assume that picture-less people are ugly and/or fat. It's not like you can say, "Well... maybe the profile is fake!", because it's pretty damn easy to fake a profile with a photo too. All you do is find some girl that's on the other side of the country and steal her photos. ...not that I've done it. :sneaky:

I actually messaged a few people without photos last night. Most of them had pretty lackluster profiles (not a surprise), but I gleamed some interesting info from their Q&A and such.

That's just sending the message that you're too poor to afford Match and not smart enough to just use OkCupid.

I'd imagine $5 a month can't pay the bills with so many window shoppers.

You assume they're ugly/fat or doing something shady, none of which are attractive.
