You don't need anything close to a 750W Power supply, a quality 550W like a Seasonic/Corsair is enough, in fact a 450W should do fine. You might want to invest a little more into an X38 motherboard, those tend to do better than P35 motherboards when all 4 RAM slots are used.

To add to the original post...

I am going to probably only use newegg for all my purchases. I want to spend around $1500. I want a Q9450 processor, 8GB ram, and a motherboard to be able to easily overclock to 3.2GHz - 3.5GHz.

I want a very good PSU, as my last system was taken out by a generic 450W PSU. I have only heard good things out PC Power and Cooling power supplies and would like to use on of them.

I already have a 22" LCD, Windows, and a CD drive to get me by.

It's not all about the wattage, but about the components used to build the PSU and how many amps are in the certain rails. That being said, PCP&C I hear is a quality brand, but can be overpriced.

A 450w powersupply for a qaudcore + HD3870 X2 ? That videocard has shown a powerdraw of 300w in BioShock, and peaks of 400w + when stressed to the max ( CPU + GPU ). I wouldn't get the PCP&C though, because it's said to be LOUD. I'd rather have a similar prices 620hx, modular too, which is nice. For the same price, this isn't halfbad either: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817153043 or this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817256009 or this one, not modular though: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817139006 .

Last but not least, pretty good price AR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817256007 In other words, plenty to choose from, and plenty of PSU's equally good, if not better then the PCP&C

You should probably stick with a 600 watt PSU, though your brand is rock solid.

That psu is overkill but you know that

Definitely go with a higher end mobo if you are going to spend that much on other parts.
But it is pointless to overclock that system.
It is needless risk honestly.

Nothing you throw at it will challenge it all running at stock speeds.

All of the psu's mentioned provide smooth, clean power. Corsair 520 or 610 are the quietest (or any Seasonic). PCP&C 610 is noisy - have (had) one, not speculating. Of course, noise is in the ears of the beholder. In general, 120mm fans are quieter than 80mm fans since they don't have to spin as fast to provide the same amount of airflow.

Properly sizing the psu to the system is worth it. A pc spends most of the time at an idle or low usage state where it's using the lower end of the psu efficiency curve. For a hugely over-powered psu, this won't be close to 80+% efficiency.
