Long story short, I'm looking to buy a house.
How big of a house should I get for this type of economy? I prefer a 2-3 car garage and at least 4K+ square feet of living space since anything smaller and I feel claustrophobic. I live alone but like to throw parties pretty often.
What kind of exterior do you all recommend? I'm thinking brick since anything else looks pretty cheap and unkempt.
Minor detail is that I'm in debt around 20K so do I need a special type of loan for a situation like this?
Not sure if you're trolling, but I'll give you an honest response, since I'm right in the middle of buying a house myself.
1) Where you do you live? 4K sq ft is going to vary widely in price depending on the locale. In socal, 4K will easily cost you over $1M+, while you probably can find that kind of space in Texas for half that or less.
2) Again, depends on where you live. You don't want to live in a brick bunker in an earthquake zone. But you don't want a stucco house in a humid environment, either. If you have lots of money (which everyone on ATOT does), you could consider a glass/steel construction.
3) Being in debt is not a minor detail. The mortgage lender is going to want to know why you're in debt and how you intend to pay the mortgage while you still owe someone else. Again, if you have lots of money, why not pay off the debt. Also, how much do you intend to put down? Getting a 0-down loan in this economy is difficult, at best.
