Looking to buy a house

Long story short, I'm looking to buy a house.

How big of a house should I get for this type of economy? I prefer a 2-3 car garage and at least 4K+ square feet of living space since anything smaller and I feel claustrophobic. I live alone but like to throw parties pretty often.

What kind of exterior do you all recommend? I'm thinking brick since anything else looks pretty cheap and unkempt.

Minor detail is that I'm in debt around 20K so do I need a special type of loan for a situation like this?

If you have no preference, just get whatever is in your price range?

I can't say i've met someone who didn't know what kind of house they wanted, haha.

No joke, my 2800 sqft place seems awfully small sometimes for just me and the wife. With the master, the computer room/office, my hobby room, her hobby room and the guest bedroom, we don't have any space for any future kids!

Too bad the troll owes 20k instead of actually having money to buy what he wants.

FYI, once you have kids, you probably won't have hobbies. Depending on the kids, you probably won't have guests either.

2800 SqFt is huge compared to my family's digs growing up.

4K Sq.ft. is retarded for someone living alone.... Hell 2800 Sq.ft. is more than enough space for a family. Unless you are related to Al Gore.

I think you should just buy a whole city block in Detroit. Then, you can have awesome parties!

I know.

It will likely turn into master room, kids room, kids room, MIL room (downstairs), and office. The house was way bigger than what we were looking for (1600 sq/ft and maybe a quarter acre lot instead of the 6k lot we have now) but our bid somehow won and here we are. Renovations killed/kills my budget/time/energy though.

20k in debt? I assume you have no downpayment. Good luck getting anybody to give you a loan.

Also, 4k sq ft is cramped? I sure hope you're trolling.

Why do you assume that?

The home I was raised in had 832 sq ft of living space. My home now has 1426 sq ft plus a patio. Somehow we're managing to survive... I guess because we don't buy lots of stuff.

Try to keep it to no more than twice your gross income. Even better if less than 25% of your take home pay. Many people will disagree and say more, but this approach puts you in a really good place financially and you can focus on wealth building instead of mortgage payments.

Is this a parody thread?

My house is 1600 sq ft living space and it's too big for me. I don't use most of the rooms.

Enjoy paying the utilities on a 4,000 square foot house.

BTW, do you have any kind of a down payment?
