Looking to buy a new drill any tool heads here?

I am a simple guy who won't use it all that much but still want one that will work hard and for a long time down the road.

I'll probably just use it to hang stuff up for the most part.

Ryobi has caught my eye with the battery swapping thing.

With my usage in mind any particular brand to go to or to stay away from?

If you're going for something light-duty and just want something durable, it might be a better idea to buy a corded drill unless you really need to be wireless. They're cheaper and usually don't wear out as quickly, plus you don't have to worry about losing the battery (which I like to do with tools I don't use very often ). I bought a Craftsman 3/8" 5 amp for $30 about 6 months ago and it works like a champ. The warranty isn't the greatest, but it should hold up for quite a few years as long as you take decent care of it.

i would only go with corded if i needed real power, like blasting holes in a telephone pole. i find cordless to be a more pleasant way to go. i've beed abusing both for years and years. whatever you buy, get a keyless chuck.

The Ryobi 18 v are nice and priced good.

Spend twice as much like I did and get a Ridgid set. Dewalt also makes better cordless tools. With mine I have graduated to some serious home projects, like concrete drilling and fencing requiring thousands of screws. My cordless actually outperforms my corded drilll by a wide margin, how bout that!

You can't go wrong with Dewalt. I have given mine beating and they keep on ticking.

amen. You buy what you pay for. That ryobi will last for a bit, but nothing like a dewalt. My buddy had a ryobi 18v and it ended up blowing up his sawzall. Not to mention the charge does not last nearly as long as a dewalt would.

I think a cheap corded drill will be fine. I have a cheap one I got at Lowes for $25, and its easy to handle and works great. If you need a light duty cordless one, check out what ever is cheap. Plan on replacing it in a few years though.

I don't like cordless Ryobi products. They seem overpriced for what you get. I have a cheap corded Ryobi reciprocating saw...it is alright.

If it will be rearly used them save your money. Get something basic like a Skil (owned by Bosch). I love seeing people with top of the line tools that can barely use them let alone even put them to use more then a couple times a year.

Ditto. My first Makita made it through an entire remodel of a house - and I'm the type prone to dropping them from the ladder. Would still have that one if I hadn't accidentally kicked it off the roof, onto the concrete drive - a ~25 foot fall.

I know people who swear similarly by their Dewalt tools.

Both are pricier names, but as others have mentioned, you get what you pay for. On one hand, don't buy more than you need, but on the other, it's silly to buy a tool that won't get the job done when you do need it.

If you get a cordless and won't be using it much, KEEP THE BATTERY IN THE FREEZER.
