Looking to buy a UPS

Hi all. I was hoping for a little help. I'm in the market for a new UPS, specifically something by APC. I don't really know much about them though and was hoping you guys could tell me what I should be looking for or give me some recommendations. This will be used to power and protect a desktop computer that is storing very important info that we can't afford to lose in the event of a power failure or surge etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I use Cyberpower 1250AVR Backup
and APC 650 Back UPS
Both are quite heavy, so be prepared for bulk mailing.

You have choices, it really depends on what system you're planning to use the UPS for. You got some info to get started. Happy hunting.

Actually to know how much UPS you need, you will need to post specs on your equipment, specifically your PSU.

Better to get UPSes at a local big-box store. You may pay sales tax, but you avoid the shipping costs (mostly) and no waiting. Wait for a sale and pick one up at a decent price. APC, TrippLite and Powerware are decent brands, CyberPower is OK - avoid Belkin and other unknown brands.

Heh, actually I'm looking because I have a Belkin now and I think its dying lol

Costco sells UPS, if you got one in your area, pickup a 650 and save on shipping.

I keep it simple.
Went to Staples and bought the 350 model from APC.
I only hooked up the monitor and computer. It just needs to work long enough for me to save and power down safely.

Depending on the PSU and MOnitor you have, that could be too much for a UPS that size, I foudn that out the hard way. If you haven an LCD, then you will probably be fine, but a CRT will EAT UPS battery life. The APC 350 I had wouldn't even stay on long enough to power down.

Also check out Newegg's prices. They have low shipping (usually) on some UPSes. I think I paid $6 shipping on my 1250AVR.
Yeah yeah, I know the cost is made up somewhere - that's why you compare total cost before buying.

I own two Cyberpower UPSes - 1250AVR and 1100AVR. My dad's got an 825VA one, don't remember which model specifically. All have performed quite well.
