Looking to convert old VHS tapes into DVD's

I currently have a Leadtek Deluxe TV Tuner which i bought a few months back to watch tv.... Think i would be better served by going with a hardware encoded option? Such as the 150?

Also, what programs do you reccomend to accomplish this?

You should be able to run a cable directly from the VHS to the s-video or component input on the TV card, at least my Leadtek Expert card can. Just use the PVR program to copy from hard disk.

I'm not sure what's the best program to use next. I usually convert over to mpeg2 and burn onto DVD but I sometimes wind up with mismatched video and sound.

Well the VCR only has Coax and RCA out, while the card only has Coax and S-Video in... I guess using Coax in would be fine for VHS, wouldnt it?

Ok, i was able to find WinDVD Creator in a pile of cd's i had... Now the question is, what quality should i record the VHS tapes at?

Obviously i don't need DVD Quality, but would SVCD be too crappy?

Not sure if this interests you, but the Kworld Xpert DVD Maker PCI is a very good capture card with RCA and S-Video inputs plus it comes with Cyberlink's PowerProducer 2 Gold, all for $29 bucks... not a bad deal.

Hmm... there WILL be a quality difference if you use the coax instead of RCA/S-Video. Isn't there an RCA to S-Video/audio RCA jacks convertor at Radio Shack? I think that would be best.

(Radioshack usually charges alot more for their brand.)
