/lawnchair because I know ATOT
Im just trying to get a deeper understand of all the "christian hype" by actually reading the bible front to back. dont get me wrong, im not an atheist because i base my arguements on the slight physical absence of "god" himself. I grew up in catholic school and went to christian churches with family and friends, mainly by force, lol. I know the "basic story" if you will, of the christian\cathlolic doctrine. It wouldnt hurt to read both the old and new testament front to back no? but rather than jumping into the fuck fest of fucked up words, aka the bible, i would like a study guide to guide me through, if that isnt enough, i would have to go to church and get brain washed. actually skip that. i wont go to church.
Please, please, get a good translation. Meaning the ESV. Why? The ESV is one of the best translated versions of the bible. (True to the meaning of the ancient greek the new testament manuscripts were written in) They also remove all of what was added to the bible back in the 200-300 A.D. ( I believe there are a total of 50 something verses removed from the new testament that were not found in the manuscripts )
If you want the absolute most accurate bible, go for the NASB. It's hard to read, as there weren't paragraphs and other things we are used to in english way back then, so the NASB ignores all that. However, the ESV is the closest translation to the NASB.
If you can't get a hold of either, the NIV is the next best, and I would not go for anything else.
The Message, TNIV, Remix, KJV, and so on are all TERRIBLE translations.
OMG someone mentioned the Bible, I have to tell everyone it's not true!!
