Yep - I just got back from my vacation and am getting straight to work on mounting my DirecTV dish... turns out that the best thing for me to do would be to mount it onto one side of my chiminey..

Made of bricks (the usual)... just wondering, what would I need to mount this up? I plan on going to home depot later tonight, what should I ask them for??

It has to be sturdy too... and very supportive... you guys who own DTV dishes know exactly what I'm talking about

Thanks in advance for any help

I wouldn't recommend drilling into your chimney. How old is the chimney for starters?

i wouldn't put it on the chimney i'd put it on the side of the house or on the deck. that way all you need is 6 screws.

but if you gotta you use those long medal straps that wrap around the chimney. just buy the chimney mount kit from rca. it has all you need.

See.. I don't really want to do it on my Chiminey either... but the thing is... I'm left with little alternative... my roof is made of that bumpy crap... I hope you guys know what I'm talking about... the ones w/ the half circles, it looks like it's made from mud brick or something, and the surface is always curving in and out... not smooth ...

And I have a lot of trees surrounding the area too

Is it possible for you to mount in to the facial board. This is the flat board just below the edge of the roof all around the home.

is your house brick? why can't you mount it on the side of your house? also do you have a deck? if not you can always go the last resort and get that rca pole that sticks in the ground for the satalite.

question: is you house brick? if not why not mount it on the side of the house?

Can't really mount it around my house... too many surroundings, trees and such... and my house is short

GG - here's a link to a chimney mount:

chimney mount

Can't link directly, so just do a search for "chimney"

For you other guys: Just wondering...I'm going to be installing this in two weeks...our house has vinyl siding...can you mount it directly into the siding? Any of you had to do that? If not, how have you mounted yours?

viewton, if you can, do like someone else already mentioned and mount it to the facia board that runs just below the roofline. The problem with trying to mount it to the side of a house with vinyl siding is that you don't know what's on the other side. You could get lucky and hit plywood or a 2x4, but more than likely there's gonna be insulating board (forgot the name) behind it. Mounting it directly to the siding is not a good idea as a stiff wind would not only take down the dish, but the siding as well.

As far as mounting to a chimney, definitely not recommended. How often do you use the chimney? If it's older and not insulated very well it could be bad for the dish.

*edit - just saw that chimney mount kit. That wouldn't be so bad as you wouldn't have screws in the brick conducting heat.
