Question Looking to pick up a new X570 MSI +realtek ?

Hello all, years ago I was changing hardware almost monthly. Since then I have really gotten out of it and am now finding my self coming back to AMD after a years with a intel i5.

So with my budget of around 300 I have come down to two boards The MSI Unify and the Strix -E. Back in the day the realtek lan was a constant problem and always had issues. I see the MSI only has the realtek lan which makes me lean towards the Strix-E.

I have zero brand loyalty (other then having problems with several different gigabyte boards) is there a reason to stay away from the MSI because of the realtek or a reason to get one board over the other?

I have an Asus Prime X570-P board with the realtek lan and I see no difference between that and the H97 I5 setup I used to have that had intel lan.

Toss a coin or buy the one that you like.

Plus, if you don't like the onboard LAN but otherwise like the board, 1x PCIe NIC addin cards are cheap.

Depends upon what you need. If you just need standard 10/100/1000, new Intel gigabit cards can be had on Amazon for ~$20-$30 with used on eBay for less. If you can live with Broadcom, used single (and dual) port Dell gigabit cards can be had on eBay for less than $15. Some Dell gigabit nics are also based on Intel chipsets.

Now, if you are talking about needing higher than 1 gigabit nic ports, like 10 gigabit, yeah that will be a lot more expensive and a lot of them may be Realtek chipset based.

Thanks for clearing that up. What kind of cabling do you need for 10 Gigabit? Fiber?

Cat 6 Ethernet supports 10gig for runs less than like 180 feet. Some professional equipment also uses optical with SFP+ connectors.

Surprisingly, a good quality Cat 5e cable over short runs won't get you 10 gig but it will often do well over its rated 1 gigabit speed.

Thanks guys, seems as realtek has gotten a little better. Back in the day they were a constant driver nightmare. Good to see things have improved.
