Looking to upgrade to:
Athlon XP 2500+
ATI Radion 9800SE
512MB PC2700
Antec 400W PSU
About $350

What do you think? Anything you would do different? Trying to keep the cost as low as possible.

dont get the radeon 9800 se. it sux and is not worth it. get the radeon 9600 pro instead for that price range.

Yea i agree the 9800se is a no no, i personally would try to hunt down a 9800pro for 200 if you can but if not a 9600 pro/xt would do the job.

SE= Sucky Edition. Try a 9700, 9700 pro or a 9800. Also another good choice would be the 5900. Most do 5950 speeeds. Also get a mobile athlon xp 2600. Mine does 2500mhz easy. The newer athlon xp's are locked but the mobile chips are not.

For a motherboard get a DFI Infinity if you want a really high fsb. If you want ease of use and are happy with 210-215fsb then get the Abit NF-7s

2400+ 266FSB (So I don't have to upgrade ram)
512 PC2100 (Current Ram)

Instead of:
2500+ 333FSB
512 PC2700

It would save me about $100.

So you want to reuse your old ram? I would still recommend you go the mobile XP route since you can set the CPU to something like 2400MHz/200FSB/dual channel PC2100 and it will blow the 2500+ away. That's is, if you want to overclock.

Yes, I would like to reuse/continue using 512mb PC2100, to save some money.

No new mobo, continue using Ausu A7V8X-X. Its not to old.

I'm try to upgrade to be able to play UT04 and alike games and add a year or two to the life of the system.

I would go with th a 2600 266front side bus if you are not going to overclock and get the Nvidia 5950 or Ati 9800 pro. Only cost you around 250.00 or so and you could spend the money you save on the 9800pro! If you are upgrading the ram and cpu, go with the mobile XP and get 3200 ram and overclock while getting a 5900 or so.

as a few others have said, get the ATI Radeon 9800PRO 128mb. there is nothing that will need more than 128megs and this card is very stable.

It is not going to make a lot of difference. You have to go a lot higher to see a real difference. I would definitely go with the mobile chip. It is not locked so you can crank up the multiplier. If you do not get a mobile chip then your overclocking is really limited because your ram will not go higher.
