Seems like it has very good FP performance, but that "ultra piplined" stuff is just delaying the processing.

Losing to an Athlon 800 in RC5, getting 6800's in 3DMark (granted vid vard played a role), as I said I don't see much to write home about here.

I just wanted to add that I think we all know that this is a stopgap measure for Intel & it's just here until they get (if??) the next processor online.

Looks like a PIII with 400mhz FSB. I think the real advantage is mhz potential anyway. Especially when the move away from the .18 micron - well hopefully. I like the way AMD and Intel are right now, split so closely in the desktop market.

I agree, you sure have to love the competition, that's always good for the customer. I think the P4 is just a selling tool. Those big "MHZ" number are good for cutomers who don't have any idea of true performance. I think the next round of CPUs from both companies may be outstanding.

most of the population doesn't really care/know anything about how a cpu works or what can slow it down. they see the. 1.2 GHZ! sticker and they say. "THATS WHAT I WANT!"

Umm...what is true performance? Yeah, engines can have 500HP, but without a good transmission, what is the point????? Nobody can say jack s*#t about the p4 yet because it isn't in full release yet.

Let's see what the p4 does about 6 months after official release in overall performance and then we can say who sucks and who doesn't & whether or not megahertz matter. And fact, isn't AMD right now touting that MHz is good?

the amd chips sucked a$$ until 3dnow optimizations came out.

keep that in mind, when the os and software is optimized for the p4 it will put the smackdown on the other guys.
