Kevin’s so desperate to be the Speaker he’s conceded to nearly everything which gives Mrs Green tons of power.

I say good, have fun with the nut balls running the house. Gonna be painful on my end however let’s see what it does for the next election.

ps, I refuse to use a cool nickname for her. She needs to be known and her name attached to her brand. Plus she’s not deserving enough for a cool Nick name like
MGT

If your predictions are correct, then we are almost guaranteed at least one government shutdown in a few months when the (formerly routine) issue of raising the government borrowing ceiling comes up, and I'm guessing this shutdown will be a prolonged one as well.

The last time that happened my wife and I each permanently lost two or three months of social security payments. Our applications were pending when that shutdown started.

I thought SSI was one of those things considered essential? Wouldn't auto-pay just continue if direct deposit?

They don't make up the missed payment? Govt workers get back pay

Didn't this $1.3 trillion spending bill cover 2023? But yeah once that is done, yeah Repugicans will force a shutdown.

The Dems stupidly didn't deep six the debt limit when they had the opportunity.

And she's really let herself go lately.

Why can't we just be rid of this fucking debt ceiling once and for all? Couldn't it have been done through budget reconciliation?
I feel like this is another time bomb like Roe v. Wade. The idea of the Republicans going so far as to cause a worldwide economic catastrophe seems impossible so no one feels the required urgency.

Voters usually seem to blame the GOP for these shutdowns, rightfully so, so I guess in the long run it isn't bad politically. But I'd rather not have the stress.

Losing abortion rights is good politically but bad for human rights. Similarly a global financial catastrophe might be good politically but probably something to avoid.

Yes, the consequence probably isn't worth the political benefit if it reaches catastrophic proportions. Hasn't happened as of yet though.

I often wonder what would have happened had the insurrectionists succeeded in killing Pence and/or Pelosi, or if those guys in Michigan had actually killed the governor. Very possible that Trump and the GOP would be in the wilderness now.

I don’t know. I’d think they’d be even more emboldened

I think what would happen is enough of their voters would turn on them to make them not a viable party outside of deep red areas. There is still a chunk of GOP voters who do not believe the election was stolen and are not generally prone to conspiracy theories but vote GOP because they prefer their policies. Some of them would leave. If the terrorists would be emboldened, it would only make them do it again and again, making it worse for the GOP.

This is the problem. Democrats and liberals have been underestimating the shittiness of the Republicans for quite some time now. And some are still doing it even after all that's happened since.
I don’t think that’s the issue, I think Manchin and Sinema hold dumb ideas like that the debt ceiling is useful for negotiating leverage.

Then why wasn't it done in the Obama years? We initially had 60 votes in the Senate. IIRC the repugs caused a lot of headaches during the Obama years with these shutdowns.
They didn’t have control of both houses. Pre 2012 it always raised without major issues.

Liberals are destroying the country for real Americans, White Christians. To save the Earth from evil what does it matter if the US has to fall. The good people can survive the fire and arise from the ashes. It is simply a matter of faith. The Bible predicted the onset of Armageddon; bring it on.

None of this would have ever happened if people everywhere knew the real enemy, self hate and how we would rather destroy the world than face our inner pain. Blame the other for the fact we do not want to wake up. And so it is.
