I was reading through the thread and saw this in a post. Jeez, I hope you weren't serious when you said that. I bet nobody you knew or loved was killed there.

The point is, that we shouldn't just sit there and take it. We have to hit back hard to make them unable to do it again. Or to think twice about trying something like that again. No, it's not easy, but it's got to be done. Fill yourself with hatred? Hell yes, I hate all those people that are trying to kill me.

That's what the terrorists said too.

Of course that's what they said. So what? They went and killed thousands of innocent people. We didnt. We are right and they are wrong. And I know they said that too.

And we've killed thousands of innocents to make money. With our foreign policy as it is, Sept. 11th was a long way coming. There are no rights in this equation.

The verified death toll as a direct result of US and British bombing in Afghanistan is over 3,100, with many more victims still unaccounted for.

You forget to say how many of them were innocent, or innocent mistakes, and how many of them were serving in the taliban's ragtag army.
EDIT: Besides, if we killed innocents there, we didnt TRY to. They did. Jeeez, it's night and day.

Thing is, there's some truth embedded in there. Eventually, September 11th will be forgotten. It will take time, but eventually, the memories of the event will remain, but the date will be forgotten. Then maybe we would forget the president...perhaps the name of the towers, the city...time takes its toll - on everything. Of course, this may take a few hundred years, or perhaps even thousands, but eventually, it will be forgotten; lost in a pile of historical facts. That's just how we are - can't remember everything that happened everywhere. Just have to remember it while we can, and learn what we can from it, and go on living.

You habitually post statistics without a link. What is the source for that? I have a good idea but I want you to say it.

Compared to the tens of thousands that Al Qeada and the Taliban have killed? And what about Sadam? He's slaughtered more Muslims than anyone in history!

How do you know?

Who cares whose right or wrong?
I only care about whose standing at the end of the day.

Good point Frances.

But also, I am right because I am on this side. If I didn't believe I was right then I would be on their side. I see no middle road, it is black and white.

Well see what hapened was, there was this economics professor in new Hampshire and he read a lot of stuff on the internet. Then he added them all up, squared it, divided by ten, increased that by an order of magnitude, divided by 4 (because it was Wednesday) had Noam Chomsky verify it and posted it as fact.

There you have it.

Typical Berkeley wackiness! (Key phrase coming) But it is a free country isn't it. To bad the Berkeley wackos don't seem to have a clue how it became a free country or how it is kept free.

Bezerkley hasn't changed a bit in over 40 years. The only thing that's changed lately is the attention they've gotten from disenfranchised Conservatives looking to find someone they can blame their problems on. Bezerkley is a place best ignored. The more attention they get the more they act up.

However, we put Al Queda and the Taliban in place (Well both us and Britain). When we intentionally put evil people in power because it furthers our political agenda in foreign policy, is the blood not on our hands too?

The Taliban and the Mujadin(or some other M word I can't remember how to spell, I am just being too lazy to look it up at the moment) who became Al Queda, were both funded, armed, trained, and put in place by us and Britain to combat the former USSR from gaining a foothold in that region. The Northern Alliance warned us that the Taliban was evil, but we didn't care as it stopped the communists. How many stupid things did we do fighting communism, how many more stupid things will we do fighting terrorism?

The United States slaughters over a hundred thousand innocent people (probably a slight exageration on average, but some years we are at least 150,000) every year to further our political agenda (in particular financial interests).

I didn't post the number, but I checked it. The estimate range seems to be somewhere between 3,000 and 4,000 depending on the source:

Civilian Victims of United States' Aerial Bombing of Afghanistan

Amensty International: Afghanistan: Accountability for civilian death toll

Civilian death toll is not big news
(Averaging 62 civilian deaths a day between Oct 7 and Dec 7)

Civilian Casualties in Afghanistan

Marc Herold, a professor at the University of New Hampshire, arrived at the estimate by tabulating numbers from news reports and corroborated eyewitness accounts.

Ummmm yeah.

BTW that Amnesty link says nothing at all about 2000 civillian casualties. It talks about that one incident where perhaps 20 - 30 were killed because they were firing guns in the air while a plane was flying by. Post some more links from reputable sources.

You better be ready to back that up with some cold hard facts or shut your fuckin' mouth. Pick one and do it.
