All kidding aside(because I was partially kidding), the only reason you have the freedom of dissent is because we have fought for it time and time again. While you can sit in your liberal enclave in Berkeley and bitch and moan about Tibet and Iraq, I will be out there doing my job and paying my taxes so you CAN bitch. When was the last time Berkeley did something for inner city kids or poor rural farmers? When was the last time they sent countributions to a city destroyed or damaged by a tornado? I seem to recall packing supplies for Honduras when the Hurricane hit that country a few years back. Did Berkeley pack any supplies for my neigbors when a large tornado destroyed their homes, schools and churches? I think not.

Unfortunatly contemporary "Christianity" seems to interpret Jesus saying "I am the way" as meaning you should accept him as your lord and saviour, have a "personal relationship", go to church, whatever, rather than looking to the moon and seeing that his way is his life and who it was he tried to help. What makes you think I don't work or pay taxes? I work full time and travel on the weekends for work. Berkeley perpetually has big food and book drives. We have things like midnight basketball leagues and countless afterschool centers, programs for kids....Berkeley and Oakland have their ghettos too. You're only imagining that Berkeley is all talk and no action to sustain your own negative image. There are too many positive and creative things that you'd only find in the Berkeley community to even begin.

Cesar Chavez and the UFW are not at all what I mean by rural farmers and you know it. He was more concerned with migrant farmers than those that have been farming for generations in the midwest and the south.

"helping" example, Inner city kids tutoring. Free tutoring. It's pretty good to be tutored for no fee by students who attend highest ranked public school in the nation. As for firefighters, call up the BFD and ask them if they went out and helped you during your tornado. If yes, then great. If no then you're right.

Well, due to the fact that I have no interest at all in what the whining half of the population does, I wouldn't know anything about their actions or lack of it. You see, half of the campus here are engineers and scientists, and the other half are the complaining bitches that you hear so much about. I'm on the engineer side of course, and actually I didn't hear anything about the 9/11 commemoration until I saw the link here.

However, I do remember that right after 9/11, there was a vote in the House where they were trying to decide whether to take action against the people who were responsible, and the vote was xxx to 1, with the 1 being the representative for Alameda/Berkeley district. Now that was pretty stupid.

But I also have to say that since you haven't spent a good deal of time in Berkeley or this area, you shouldn't be making any conclusions about our action or lack thereof. Just like since I haven't spent any time in your area (Alabama/Georgia), I shouldn't be coming to the conclusion that the only thing there are rednecks southerners and other morons. I assume Berkeley has books, magazines, and newspapers like my little redneck enclave does. Also I hope you have the internet(how else could you be posting). In each of the souces I just listed you can find a wealth of information on culture, world, national and local events, college events, stories of goodwill, old-fashioned bitching and lots of other information. Just because I haven't lived in Berkeley for four or five years doesn't mean that I know nothing about the place. I also am still waiting on proof of all the good works that Berkeley does that distances it from High Schools and Churches.
