Looper: how does this time travel premise make sense?

I have yet to see the movie but in reading one review people are sent back in time to be killed and dispose of the bodies so they are not found. So is there technology in the year 2044 that does this but no longer exists in the year 2074, where the victims come from?

I still want to see it and the reviews on metacritic are high but this plot does not make sense to me.

they are sent back and killed so there is no evidense of their death in 2074 they just vanish or its if they never existed in 2074 at all depending on how you look at it

i havent seen it yet

No, i have it right, the victims are from 2074 and sent to be killed in 2044 so there are erased. How come you can be erased from 2044 but they cannot have a killer in 2074 erase someone in the present day of 2074?

So why can't they do the same thing in 2074 to make someone vanish?

We've been over this.

They are making a new time line by doing this.

im assuming it is so that there is absolutely no way a body in 2074 can be found, since the body is back in 2044.

that can't be said if they killed them in 2074 and the body was hidden somewhere.

they should just pull a walter white on em anyways.

How is killing someone in the past making a new timeline? Your answer raises more questions to me.

Unless they are destroying the body it will decompose but there will still be bones. Or are they saying in 30 years with only bones no one can determine a cause of death? The can still do DNA on any found bones to identify the person.

Why not just build the time machine on top of a tall building that didn't exist in 2044, or at the bottom of a lake or inside a mountain?

Won't there still be the "2044" version of the victim walking around? So by killing that "2074" person in year 2044, just eliminates the 2074 victim, but not the 2044 one? Which.. would then create an endless loop of the same person being killed over and over and over.

hmm seems to me that the Cold case files in 2074 would be having a hell of a time.

Normally I'd join the time travel discussion, but it's a Bruce Willis movie. Don't over think it.

Maybe they are in 2044 to begin with and they take the body 30 years into the future to dispose of it? Pretty hard to find a missing body from 2044 if it's 3 decades away from being a corpse.

don't underestimate it, the reviews are very high and Bruce Willis was also in the acclaimed 12 Monkeys movie which featured a drooling Bruce Willis who time travels.

So Joseph Gordon Lovitt is now an older version of Bruce Willis?

I have absolutely no idea about the plot of this movie; I haven't even seen an ad for it. I was just postulating about how the plot could make sense if the timeline were reversed.

gotcha, yes sending people into the future for extermination would make more sense. Maybe someone who sees it can update the thread this weekend because if not i do not understand it and want to know the reason well before the BD comes out.

I answered this in 2012 so that anyone could understand the answer. But then, a time machine was invented in 2013, and the 2014 me decided to go back in time to the 2012 me and edit this post, then go to 2013 (I'm about to depart) where I'm planning on thanking the guy who built the time machine.

Why wouldn't you just send your victim back 6,000 years when people and dinosaurs roamed the earth together. There is no way they would survive either the dinosaurs or the barbaric conditions and any evidence left in 2074 would be fossils.

Why not send yourself back in time, play the lotto (bringing the winning numbers with you) and live the rest of your life filthy rich?

sending them back in time is idiotic. besides the bones will still be around and found some day. what if someone excapes like the movie has it? the guy is going to know everything about the future. he i can do so much damage to the people that sent him to die before they are born.

really it don't make sense. IF you are going ot send them to the past have them appear in the ocean, or a volcano or North Korea..

Send them back in time 8 billion years or so. Those bones aren't getting found.
