This quote has me laughing!

"It's downtown Baghdad," the housewife said. "It's insane. I've wanted to come here for 10 years. I thought this was a sophisticated city. I guess not."

Are you at all familiar with South Africa?

Not to jump in on your pow-wow, but what could South Africa possibly have to do with any of this? Saying something happend in one place doesn't mean it happens everywhere; there was a nuclear disaster in Russia, does that mean any nuclear reactor is gonna blow?

Don't say "Well, nuclear reactors have nothing to do with this either". It was a generalization that everyone can understand.

Sorry, should have been clearer; they forced as many as they could into the ghetto.

As for how... when the entire police force, legislative staff and judicial staff is white it's quite easy for one race to subjugate the other.

The saddest thing is that you actually believe that. If you have paypal I will donate some cash for you to buy a clue.

The crookedest cops in America.

No wonder they're looting.

Yeah....when you go to the deep south, white people are a smaller percentage of the population. When you get into certain areas, you'll be lucky to spot 1 white person out of 50 blacks. I guarantee white people are "looting" too....
Nope. The white people "find".

grabbing perishables that float by you as you wade through neck deep water is NOT looting.

grabbing a shppoing cart and filling it up with clothes and shoes Is looting.
Wow. How fortunate they just happened to "find" a loaf of bread floating right next to them.

It was right beside the floating cars. Perfectly understandable but I seriously doubt it.

Point is, numbers don't matter, power does. Whites have money and power, blacks don't. I'm not getting into why that is.

The flaw in your nuclear reactor analogy is that it should be "there was a nuclear disaster in Russia, does that mean any nuclear reactor could blow?" I wasn't saying that because it happened in South Africa, it therefore happened in N.O. I was giving an example of where a minority (by a LARGE margin) was able to oppress the majority to show that it COULD happen. (edit: because Auryg's question implied that he believes that could not happen)

QFT - as far as the looting of non-essential items, big-ticket items, etc.

I have no compassion for those taking things that are not considered basic needs (eg. TV's, computers, etc). For those that are taking diapers, food, water, etc.....I've got a kid and I guess I'd do what I needed to too....tough choices, eh?

The pictures aren't as dramatic & don't make the news but I've seen plenty of people helping people - all colors, all races.

I don't care what color you are - a *lot* of people lost everything. Loss hurts - all races love and care about their children and families.

I just heard an interview from a nurse in a hospital in NO. She is seeing 30 foot fishing boats manned with machine guns in the streets. This is going to get interesting when the national gaurd shows up.

Believe what? That when idiots gain power they'll abuse it to their own ends? hevnsnt's ticket for "speeding sometime tonight" should be proof enough.

Take a look at the history books. Or, as mugs pointed out, South African Apartheid. Minorities with power can easily control and otherwise f%$# with the majority.

Actually the blurb beside the picture clearly states that they "found" the items in a grocery store. They weren't just "floating by." So yeah... Nice try.

If you are going to quote a blurb, please state what it actually said and not what you want it to say. It clear states, "Two residents wade through chest-deep water after finding bread and soda from a local grocery store..." The word from can suggest many of things since the picture is only a snapshot of a moment and time and does not suggest what the writer experienced them doing before hand. You somehow swapped out the word from in the blurb and put in your own biased in to suggest that they where in the store looting it.

The second picture where the term looting was used can be very valid and the right hand holding a 12 pack does not mean that the large black bag is not full of "loot." Again, the writer of that blurb watch this individual take part in an activity before snapping the picture which is seen in the statement, "..after looting a grocery store in New Orleans..." That means that the act already happened and the picture is later.

Finally, Chris Graythen and Dave Martin are two seperate journalist/photographers and there accounts and description can vary. One my consider these acts as finding and the other my see them all as looting. One picture is from the AP and the other is AFP so grouping them together as if the same writer put the tags "looting" and "finding" on the same act is far fetched.

huh?

Your first 2 points make no sense whatsoever. How the hell do you know the writer *witnessed* the black person looting while the first writer "only captured a moment in time"? Skewing the data are we?

They both INTENDED to say the exact same thing, only one has the word "loot" and the other has the word "find". The irony here (since you don't get it) is that in the first picture it is white people that "found" food, while the second picture it is a black person that "looted" food.

The catch here is that yes, they are indeed by different photographers so obviously they will write things differently. I highly doubt they intended it to be racist. Given that, it is plain FUNNY.
