Why take a pill and have a drug go through your circulation when you can take a locally acting steroid that stops the inflammation of your nasal mucous lining?

Because I don't like the stuff dripping down the back of my throat and into my stomach.

Jala Neti

I've been doing it for almost a year now and all of my problems have gone away.

too much work

why go through all that when you can pop a pill ?

btw you have to buy that flower or whatever for 8 bucks
no thnx

Sorry for off topic....but....

LOL Because drugs are bad. It's not too much work really. I prepare 3 L of saline solution which lasts me a week. Also, using an antihistamine doesn't stop the source of the problem...which is allergens building up in your sinus cavities. Using the neti technique 2-3 times per day removes dust, pollen, bacteria, viruses and any other nasties you've been breathing. I haven't been sick for a year now and I was able to totally stop taking allergy drugs. My quality of life has never been better....just trying to help some people out. I thought it was stupid and disgusting until I tried it too.....but IT WORKS and it's WAY cheaper than drugs.

the site you provided doesnt have purchasing information. could you provide another site where i can purchase this thing? i get really bad allergies during spring and this may help a lot. i prefer not to take medications. thanks in advance

I wanna try that Jala Neti thing also. It's worth a shot. I don't really want to try the claratin even though my allergies are horrible. I wonder what I could do for food allergies though.

You can buy pretty much any of those allergy pills OTC in Canada. I use nasenex(Rx required - Health plan pays 80%) and it is alot cheaper than OTC stuff.

I use a combination of most of the above. Instead of the neti thing, I use bottled saline nasal spray (generic, of course, because I'm cheap).

This is the website I've purchased my NETI pots from. I've tried the std white, ceramic one and the Rino horn. I actually like the ceramic one the best...but they both work fine. The Rino horn ended up being like $16 shipped. They have good service, you can even call them and they are very friendly.

I don't recommend buying the salts and other crap to make solutions. Just use regular non-iodine salt and prepare a 0.87% solution of NaCl. If you can obtain sterile, bacteria free water I highly recommend that, but it's not necessary. I happen to be a Chemist so I have very pure reagent grade NaCl and ultra-purified, bacteria free water to use. I also sterilize the container with 200 proof ethanol and add about 1% ethanol as a preservative. I realize you all probably don't have the ability to make it like that, but it's just what I do and, like I said, it's not really necessary except for the ultra paranoid like myself, LOL. I also supply a couple other people with my pure, bacteria free solution and they let it sit around for a month or so, I have to make sure bugs don't grow in it.

If any one has questions, feel free to PM me. I've started quite a few people on Jala Neti and everyone now swears by the benefits. I never leave home without my neti pot and solution...I'm hooked up on it.

Yea, that's the exact problem I USED TO HAVE. I could hardly sleep at night without nasal sprays and drugs. All that changed with Jala Neti. When it's really bad, I may have to wake up in the middle of night for a follow-up rinsing.....ahhhhh...I can breath!!!

Generally, I do it 3 times/day. Morning, when I get home from work (you get exposed to sick people at work), then before I go to bed. I swear, it has changed my quality of life and I'm TOTALLY drug free now.

PM me if you have any questions.

I don't really have problems with allergies but have a stuffy nose problem going on about 10 yrs now. I carry a bottle of 4-Way Nasal Spray with me
in my pocket and I have another bottle on my bed table. Sometimes my nasal passages close tight as a drum and I can't stand sleeping with my mouth open.

I've been to an MD but he gave me a prescription sample of some crap that smelled so bad I almost puked. It was just more nasal medication (I forget the name).

Is this "Neti pot" just for allergies or will it help me ?

The reason you have a stuffy nose problem is because those nasal sprays are highly addictive. There's a reason they say not to use them for more than three days. This addiction is pretty common, and there are some expensive remedies, but you don't need those. Go cold turkey, without the sprays, for 5-7 days. Yes, those days will suck, and you will have to breathe through your mouth. But guess what? After that, you will not be chained to those sprays anymore, and you'll be able to breathe just fine.

You are perfect for Jala Neti. It will get you over the spray addiction and give you relief from your problem. If you start Neti right away, you shouldn't have the spray "withdrawl" symptoms. However, since you've become so dependent on spray, you may need to use the neti method much more frequently for the first week. Maybe as often as 8-10 time/day until you get cleared up. That's the beauty of this technique...you can use it as often as you need to with no ill-effects.

Jala Neti is for EVERYONE. Even if you don't have problems, you should use it to purge your nose of bacteria and viruses. This is the first winter in my life where I didn't get even so much as a cold. Think about it..... 99% of illnesses begin in the nose. You breath in bacteria or viruses and they live and multiply in your sinus cavities. Initially, they start in the lower sinus area (right where Neti flushes) because that's where they are brought in. Then they spread to the throat and lungs from there. If you can rinse them out right away from the nose, they are defeated!!! They have no initial "staging area" to live in and are immediately purged from the body.

After some of you new to Jala Neti get started with it, please post here and tell us your impressions of the technique. Perhaps we need a new jala neti thread in off topic.

I use the neti pot too. Doesn't solve all problems for me but it works well for most. Definately worth trying if you actually care about solving the problem instead of dosing up. Sometimes drugs are needed though!

Can someone please explain exactly how this works? Do you snort up the water? Do you just pour it into your nostrils or what? I don't really understand. Thanks, it sounds great. My allergies aren't that bad, but I would like to be able to sleep more soundly at night.

THIS link was provided earlier in this thread (thanks Dacalo)... at the bottom of the page there is a link to click on that shows you a 6 minute video of exactly how this works...
to give a basic description - you tilt your head over a sink and pour the solution in one nostril(the top one depending which way your head is tilted) and it drains out the other... i may just have to give it a shot... i just started back on my Claritan D last week... dang allergies

I went to the local Albertson's and they had packages of 5 Clariitin on sale for $4.99-reg. $5.99 and right by it was a load of $2 off coupons. I bought 1 box just to try them out-have had a BAD cold/allergies for the past week+. So 5 for $2.99 isn't bad.

BTW: They have calmed my cold/allergies down a little-still have it though.

Bah, video on the SinuCleanse website is only in Real Player. If you don't have that bloatware installed there is a Windows Media file on this website that someone else suggested. Scroll halfway down below 'More Info on Net'.
I'm probably going to try this out also.

No offense, but why would you spend $16 on one item (let alone 3 versions of the same item) just to pour saline solution into your nose?

Here's a $2 Nasal aspirator fill it up with your saline solution and go to town.

Well, I got the SinuCleanse kit and have been using it for about 4 days now. I also went cold-turkey - not using the
4-Way Nasal Spray (first time in almost 10 yrs). During the daytime, it's no big deal, but at night I have problems
breathing through my nose. It seems when I lay on my back I'm OK but as soon as I roll to my side or stomach
both my nasal passages clog. I hate breathing through my mouth.

The Neti-pot system is a little uncomfortable and unpleasant but not that bad. So far it won't open clogged passages and won't keep them
open when I'm in bed.

I'll give it a full month and then consider having my nasal passages drilled out. (ouch)

I was always told to try cleaning out your nasal passages in the the morning and night with salt water (salt and non-clorine water) doused cotton ball to help with allergies and such. If the idea of pouring water thru your nose is kinda uncomfortable, maybe you can that this. Mom used it for a while and it worked but she stopped when she became too lazy (not too hard but she's tobusy I guess).

4-Way, makers of 4-Way Nasal Spray also makes a Saline Spray available in the same type nasal spray bottle.
Considering it's only water and salt, at $4 a pop, it's a little pricey if you ask me.
