<< This is probably a little off topic.
I was in China Town last week and they had several DVDs for sale, including LOTR. Now I know what you're thinking, but I've seen a couple on EBay that claim it has DVD quality picture, 5.1 all that stuff. I should have dropped $10 and found out, but the VHS movies I used to buy in C-Town were all crap.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone had picked up the China Town Lord of the Rings, and what their opinion of it was, quality wise. >>
I have "tested" no less than 4 versions of LOTR bought from china town and wall st (in NY). Three of them were utter crap (two were green with single channel audio, the third had less of a green tint but still single channel audio). The fourth version was great quality auido and video (probably the oscar screener) and had the "you are watching an illegal pirated copy. call this number ..." crap scroll by every 10-15 minutes. As with all bootlegs, I find the copies that have chinese lettering on them are always the best. In this case, the three crappy copies had nice looking covers, the one with the great quality had an ugly white "home-made" cover and the back of the case had the story for Vanilla Sky I think (it said something like "snowboarding through life..." and the credits for some moive with Bruce Willis in it. go figure
